The band consists of * Kobi Farhi – leading chants, growls, narrations, choir & backing vocals (1991–present) * Yossi "Sassi" Sa'aron – lead guitars, oud, saz, bouzouki, chumbush, choir vocals, piano (1991–present) * Matti Svatitzki – rhythm electric & acoustic guitars (1991–present) * Uri Zelcha – electric, acoustic & fretless bass (1991–present) * Matan Shmuely - Drums Orphaned Land is well known as a pioneer of a style of metal often referred to as oriental metal. They combine progressive and oriental influences to form one hell of a kickass band. They were featured in the heavy metal documentary Global Metal, which I recommend to any heavy metal fan. I have seen them live and it was one of the funnest live performances I have seen. It was like a heavy metal bar mitzvah. Their was chanting and jumping and all sorts of great stuff, it was quite amazing. Here is a picture of me with Yossi and Kobi. I am actually moving to Israel in a year so we had a good conversation about that and they said that they can't wait to see me at some of their concerts in Israel because the crowd really gets into the chanting and jumping. Also this thread is for more than just Orphaned Land, but also for other oriental metal bands. So expect to see me make some posts similar to this for other bands coming soon: Melechesh Odious
These guys are awesome, not just for their combination of metal and oriental music, but also for the fact that they've got the balls to be a metal band in the Middle-East.
This is really good. It's good to see folk metal that isn't just focused on European stuff, as great as it is.
These guys are amazing, I've always been a fan of oriental and Arabic music, and fusing it with metal is a cool idea. Mabool is a fucking amazing album. I should get ahold of ORWarriOR, especially seeing as it's produced by Steve Wilson.
Where's Ocean Land in the OP?! Good thread, and good band.
Love this band. They have some really good progressive elements in their music.
I'm gonna see these guys in November, can't wait. Supporting Amorphis alongside Ghost Brigade. Should be one hell of a show! :buddy:
My oriental metal, the other end of the specturm 陰陽座 this is some glorious shit
Oriental applies to the Far East, where Orphaned Land are not from. Awesome Arabic metal should be their genre
The middle east is such a hotbed for metal music right now, and these guys are just great
Oriental applies to the Far East, where Orphaned Land are not from. Awesome Arabic metal should be their genre
It's just plain folk metal.
Oriental in general refers to eastern. Technically it'd be middle eastern or levantine if you want to get specific but its not too big of a deal
