• Straight Pride Parade Fails Miserably
Heterosexuals apparently weren't too prideful this weekend. Blogger Anthony Rebello was the organizer behind the Heterosexual Parade at Seattle's Capitol Hill on Saturday. Over 2,000 people were invited on Facebook to attend the event created "in the name of equality [and] equal rights ... to celebrate our right to be heterosexual, and to encourage younger heterosexuals that they should be proud of their heterosexuality." While 169 responded "yes" to the event, just one person showed up, according to Seattle Gay Scene: Rebello. Photos of him marching with balloons and a cardboard sign reading "Straight Pride" were posted on Facebook over the weekend.
Source Anthony Rebello Blog (Smile Me a River):
I think it's a trend. A cry for attention. From your government, a distraction. For $. I have previously stated how I feel about marriage in this post: MARRIAGE I have also created an event: Heterosexual Parade Gay Mafia? Maybe animals should be allowed to get married? Would they govern and tax them too? While they're at it, how about equal rights for insects? In my opinion, there is a difference between a man and a woman. If you can't appreciate those differences, you can't enjoy those differences. I don't agree with boys turning into girls, and I don't agree with girls turning into boys. The word/meaning of "Pride" doesn't belong to the gay/lgbt community, it belongs to everyone. That includes us good old fashioned straight people. The way I see it, in my opinion, some boys never turn into men, and some girls never turn into women. What a shitshow. "Welcome to the other side of the rainbow" Really? No thanks. Wow, one person. I would have imagined at least two, but nope. Just one.
what'd he think was gonna happen
nice job on looking like the biggest asshole in town
I can't even laugh at him. It's just sad seeing people as misguided as this.
Why is he wearing black and white? Are those the colors of heterosexual pride? You couldn't possibly have picked a more oppressive color scheme than that.
That quote in the OP made me physically cringe. I'm glad I don't know anyone like that.
Why is he wearing black and white? Are those the colors of heterosexual pride? You couldn't possibly have picked a more oppressive color scheme than that.
Well, the gays did steal all the colours of the rainbow.. this guy was left with a pretty small colour palette.
Unlike gay pride, straight pride is stupid. Coming from a straight person.
He is not thinking straight though
If there actually was a straight pride I wouldn't care one way or another, but this guy's opinions are really ignorant and bigoted. I'm surprised like-minded people didn't attend because they certainly exist.
Straight people have no pride to parade, makes sense.
Why would I be proud of my sexuality
This could have actually been fun if it was organized as satire about gay pride instead of a serious 'straight and proud of it' affair
Why is he wearing black and white? Are those the colors of heterosexual pride? You couldn't possibly have picked a more oppressive color scheme than that.
Yes. http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/qq-het.html
This actually could have been a pretty funny satire, but he didn't do this for humor.
Well, hey, now I have an answer for when people go "WELL WHY ISN'T THERE A STRAIGHT PRIDE PARADE HUH"
I don't get why your sexuality is something you should need to be proud of. Accepting it and being willing to defend it, however. And this guy is nothing more than an attention horse.
I don't get why your sexuality is something you should need to be proud of. Accepting it and being willing to defend it, however. And this guy is nothing more than an attention horse.
I think an explanation is less that they're proud to be that thing and more so that they're proud to be that thing in the face of strife. So pride to be gay exists because of homophobia, standing open and happy with yourself in spite of it, and the accomplishments against it. Black pride exists due to racism, so on. Which is why straight pride parades and white pride shit fails. There's just no problems either group faces that are significant enough and widespread enough to warrant being particularly proud of either.

And this guy is nothing more than an attention horse.
I went to a conservative catholic school and live in a state where being gay will get you threats. I've been insulted by strangers on the street late at night and have been concerned that I might be assaulted multiple times for my sexuality. And unfortunately I've had to struggle with that part of my identity as a result. Having pride in this case is about not feeling ashamed. It isn't related to feeling pride for an achievement or something you did yourself.
Wow, one person. I would have imagined at least two, but nope. Just one.
On top of that, it looks less like a parade of any sort and much more like he's a homeless balloon vendor.
Why is he wearing black and white? Are those the colors of heterosexual pride? You couldn't possibly have picked a more oppressive color scheme than that.
it's actually kind of a smart choice, given heterosexuality is the textbook binary of sexuality.
I don't get the point of "pride" in something so arbitrary as sexuality... I do understand why pride events exist, but why be proud of being born white, black, asian, gay, straight, whatever when you can be proud of something you put work into to achieve?

No one should feel fear for a personal choice that harms no one.
So he picked the gayest part of town to have a straight pride parade in. Guess he doesn't know the city that well.
If you are asking this then you don't really understand why pride events exist
I'm pretty sure I do: It's to combat opposition to one's lifestyle and being. But if that's not it then please tell me why you think they exist.
This pretty much sums it up, friend.
Okay, then. Still don't feel the need for pride in that context. Guess it's just me personally, I don't relate to gender or sexuality being a part of my identity unless it relates to my physical health. I was made fun of for being non-binary a whole lot in the past, but I never really cared for some reason, and I still don't.
