I could have sworn the game already had physx, I've seen videos from the beta where people were using it.

It got disabled. My guess is that it's wasn't optimized enough by release, so they disabled it until they've sorted it out. The elevators also have way too much particles imo, i mean, just look at this. :v:

Maybe it doesn't look too bad on a screenshot, but if you're trying to actually play the game, it gets in your way more than looking pretty. Needs to be toned down imo
Bleh, yet more tacked on PhysX effects that end up being a disadvantage since it can obscure your aim. We'll have to wait till an OpenCL-based physics engine takes the lead in the industry so that EVERY GPU can perform these effects, so that games can actually be designed around them.
There was a video of someone jumping into one of those elevators. It looked fucking amazing how the particles were pushed away by the player.

This is a much better demonstration than the video in the article:

It's like everything has a layer of flint on it,
so realistic
It doesnt work for me though. Does it only work on nvidia cards?
More hardware strain is exactly what we need from this game.
With the new "optimisation patch" the game has seen another 20-30 fps drop on my gtx 590 with 8gigs ram and an I7 680. It also has this brand new feature where it will hang and crash at random intervals.
Thanks SOE :D
I sure hated it when it ran perfectly fine just like in the Beta.

Physx powers all the physics for the unreal engine (3.0+ iirc). I don't see epic replacing their physics engine with another one.
GPU accellerated stuff will probably be used all over the place on next gen consoles i'm sure though. So something should happen in the pc space aswell.

I wouldn't put it past them to overhaul their physics engine actually, their engine is all about wide use and having a physics engine that can be used by even more hardware would be advantageous for them, I mean they've probably overhauled more extreme parts of their engine before.
Tried it, nearly cut my fps to half
I really wish NVidia didn't use this as a 'buy our cards' technique. It looks so good, but I have an AMD, so I'm never going to get to use this.

competition, baby

i'd do the same thing if i was in nvidia's position and trying to earn money, call me a dick, but i'm pretty sure everyone would
