• Why No One Should Ever Buy from EA Games Again

UPDATE 11/26/11 (A month after this originally happened) GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! I just got a call from Russell Watson (the executive in my above post). All of my DLC is now authenticating correctly with my original account. He also told me to shoot him an email around the release time of ME3. (Apparently even employees can't reserve/pre-order things this soon). ORIGINAL POSTING FOLLOWS: Alright FPers, I'm not one to rant, but this shit pisses me off so much I can't help it this time. Last night I got bored with all my other games and decided "Hey, I'll start a new Mass Effect 2 game since I haven't played Arrival yet and I need to start tailoring a character for ME3 import." I fire up ME2 to be greeted with the "The following DLCs could not be authenticated" bullshit. I figure it's just because I haven't played in so long maybe I have to reactivate. I sign in with my account and I'm greeted with "You must purchase Cerberus Network to gain access." At this point I'm like, "Fuck what"? I then go to check my BioWare DLC page: Okay, it's all here. Since it's midnight at this point I just say fuck it and do other shit. Today I start contacting EA support. First guy I get is nice and creates another account for me and activates the base Cerberus Network DLC (none of my other stuff). Okay, that's nice, but I want the other DLC I paid for. I run through 2 other guys who don't know what the fuck they're doing. Then I get to the 4th guy. Here's where the shit hits the fan. He says he's going to merge my old account with the new one. In the middle of the merge, he hangs up on me. Having that feeling in my gut, I go to log in to the old account (the one with all my DLC). That lousy shitheaded motherfucker DELETED my account with all my DLC on it. I run through 4 more people before finally deciding, "Fuck this!" So I snoop around and find the ME2 DLC activator and use it on my DLC. ESTIMATED DLC VALUE: BioWare Points 80 = $1.00 USD Arrival = 560 Aegis Pack = 160 Firepower Pack = 160 Shadow Broker = 800 Overlord = 560 Kasumi = 560 Alt. Appearance 1 = 160 Terminus = $5 (on eBay) Umbra Visor = Free Recon Hood = Free Sentry Interface = Free Incisor Rifle = $5 (Collector's or Digital Deluxe Edition Required) Collector's Armor = $5 (Collector's or Digital Deluxe Edition Required) Cerberus Network Content = 1200 Total BW Points: 4160 = $52 Total Cash Items: $15 TOTAL COST OF ALL DLC: $67 EA RIPPED ME OUT OF $67! Here's a chat log from the last support session:
you: Please tell me you can help me, I've been through about 8 people already and they've only made the problem worse Anurag: I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. you: Here is what's going on Anurag: Please tell me your sisue Anurag: Issue* you: I tried to play Mass Effect 2 this morning, but it wouldn't authenticate my DLC you: Any of it you: Int he process of trying to get it fixed, one agent managed to actually delete the account with all of my DLC on it. you: Now all I have left is the base Cerberus Network Anurag: May i know what error message you are getting? you: It says "The following DLC cannot be authenticated, please sign in with the account used to purchase it" and then lists all of my DLC Anurag: Please provide me your email address you: I still have a screenshot from the account they deleted, proving that I do indeed own all the DLC you: It's OLDACCOUNT you: Here is the screenshot showing ownership of DLC: http://i.imgur.com/g6Px0.png Anurag: I would need some time to investigate this, please stay connected. you: I shall Anurag: I am sorry but i am not being able to see screen shot. you: http://i.imgur.com/g6Px0.png you: That one Anurag: I am sorry but it still no you: is there an email I can send it to? That's my only proof Anurag: I am sorry but your email; address is not seaerchable you: Because that other guy DELETED the account when he was trying to merge it or whatever you: he merged it into NEWACCOUNT if that's any help Anurag: I will let you know that account can not be merge at all. you: that's what i get sent to when i try to sign in with the gmail address you: You know what, forget it. You obviously aren't going to help me, so I'm just going to use this nice little crack I found to activate all my DLCs. I've already paid for them so you shouldn't even care. And just to be nice, I won't download Genesis or the 2nd Appearance Pack since I never bought them. I'll at least be nice about it. you: You can tell EA they've lost a customer for life you: I won't even be buying Mass Effect 3 because of this bull. you: I've been through 8 people, I can't believe it took me this long to figure out that EA doesn't care about people who've already paid them money. you: Not even going to try to convince me eh? you: Wow, not even going to be the one to disconnect? you: EA trains their service reps so well.
Fuck you, EA. In addition, I sent an email to the CEO of EA, John Riccitiello.
Mr. Riccitiello, normally when I email the CEO of a large gaming company it is for one of two reasons; to praise them for the good work they've done or to inform them of the horrible treatment I have received as a customer. Unfortunately, in this case, it is the latter. Last night I attempted to play Mass Effect 2, only to find that some of the game content would not activate. It was listed as present on BioWare's page, so I contacted EA support in order to get it fixed. Unfortunately things did not end well. The first person I spoke to was quite helpful. He created a new account for me and activated some of the content I owned on it. I appreciate his effort but he did not activate all the content I was entitled to. Over the next few hours I spoke to many other customer support reps, one of which hung up on me after DELETING the account all my content was under. I went through a few more people in an attempt to fix it, but eventually gave up as I was getting nowhere. The dollar value of all the content I lost was approximately $52 (since one rep activated the Cerberus Network, valued at $15, I took it off the grand total of $67 lost when my account was deleted). This is completely unsatisfactory. Unless restitution can be made, I will not be purchasing any game developed or published by EA ever again, and few dozen of my friends have told me they will not either. I have made a post on a forum I frequent which is not nearly as kindly worded as this email. If you wish to read it, you may find it here: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1136993 or you may view this in case guest viewing is disabled: http://i.imgur.com/gwS8l.png If you have taken the time to read this, I appreciate it. If you haven't, then that just shows how much EA really cares about its customers.
Also, here's some tweets and statuses you can like/RT/etc to support them: https://www.facebook.com/EA/posts/10150369665944190 https://www.facebook.com/EA/posts/10150369655899190 http://twitter.com/#!/Computermaster/status/131127207744647168 http://twitter.com/#!/Onyx3173/status/131162540507009024 At the behest of JeanLuc, I've created a donate button: I don't expect anything but if you're feeling generous it would be nice.
Gotta love when a company uses foreign countries for cheap tech-support.
This is why I would not buy from origin.
I bought all of these months ago, before Origin was even an idea.
Well, I play console. But I'd be pretty pissed off too.
You should've known better than to use an EA service for anything that involves money
Why give up? I would just keep harassing them until they give in.
As far as I know you can't even merge accounts at all. Sounds weird I know, but it seems like he stole your account.
I also added a count of how much money this is all worth.
Did you call back after the guy deleted your account?
Posted a link to this thread on the EA Facebook, maybe they'll toss you a line.
This is where I draw the line and start telling myself that pirating would be easier, I mean, they make it a law that you can't pirate but come up with shit like this? You are damned if you do and damned if you don't, bullshit.
Did you call back after the guy deleted your account?
Yeah, that last chat was to try and fix it, but note he says it's not "seaerchable".
In that case ewitwins, fuck you EA go to hell. Maybe they will read this!
This Origin shit has gone downhill from day one. I'm not usually a pessimist, but can they please just accept that this is not for them and give up? I mean, god damn.
So he fucking flat out rejected to looka t your pic. I CANT SEE IT I CANT SEE IT I CANT SEE IT isnt a very convincing way to haggle or whatever.
Ugh, I hate it when companies make a virtual currency. It means they always pocket the difference between the set amount of 'points' you bought and how expensive the other thing was. For example if I bought 300 points, and let's say that was 30 pounds, I buy something that was 200 points. Now that's fine, but now I have 100 points, and if there is NOTHING on the 'store' that is that cheap, the company have effectively stolen 10 quid off me. Evil!
cunts Ste stop commenting on my account cunt
not that this has anything to do with origin, but origin was one of the reasons i didn't buy bf3. not the only reason, but it's definitely a reason. i don't like ea and i don't want to get a new client so ea can get more money. i might not even buy sw:tor anymore, even though i've been hyping and waiting for that game for years now.
Posted a link to this thread on the EA Facebook, maybe they'll toss you a line.
They've gotten at least three comments about it with mine and Forumaster's linking to FP. Hopefully they don't just ignore it like assholes.

It must be so frustrating talking to these cunts over a live chat, especially when you've been scammed out of $70 odd. I feel for you.
Ugh, I hate it when companies make a virtual currency.
I do as well, but for different reasons. It's more like the psychological trap they hope people fall into. The more you distance something from money, the less people treat it as carefully as money, hence the tokens and hence the currency always being "larger" than the real money (for example $1 = 1000 Credits or something). Not only does this inflation make the numbers too big to quickly comprehend for a bunch of people, it also makes you feel like you still have a lot left after shopping, so you're more inclined to spend money. Doesn't work on everyone obviously, but that someone was so money greedy up there they thought they need this scheme to boost sales is quite frankly disgusting me. Focus on better support instead for example.

(You can't hold microsoft points as coins or notes) Which would tend to lead people to make stupid decisions with their cash. It also makes the 'credits' look disposable and cheap, so buying more of them again doesn't seem like a big spend, when overall you're spending a considerably large amount of money.
BF3 is the only thing and the last thing I will get on origin
If it makes you feel better, EA did have their systems mess up and a lot of us managed to get 3 free games... http://www.facepunch.com/threads/827457
I asked them about merging accounts before, they said they could do it, but you'd lose of your stats in games like BF3 and such.
Well EA support was stupid enough to give me a bunch of Dead Space 2 keys and they all seemed to work a few weeks after release. I have given a few out and have 3 accounts to myself with DS2 on it. lmao
Battlefield games are the only thing I buy from EA It would be nothing but they're just so much fun every time and I can't help myself
EA support is fucking horrible and always has been. I thought people by now knew that if they have any kind of problems involving EA and their games they may as well give up and never buy their products again
