• Suggestions for CPU cooler

I've got an AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE, with that noisy ass stock cooler that sounds like a jet engine. So, what aftermarket cooler would you suggest?
Hyper 212+ That is all.
Well since about 3525245 different people on 342234 different places mention Hyper 212+ as the best choice I guess Imma get that one, it seems really fucking good. My case can support up to 170mm tall CPU fan, will it fit?
Easily.
Dimensions are 120 x 79.7 x 158.5 mm so it should, but check your case's paperwork if you want as it should have allowances for the cooler. edit: ninja'd
Yeah the case manual says up to 170mm so if it's 158mm tall It'll fit.
It should, I have the same cooler and my case fit it by just 1mm :v:
My Hyper 212+ is a good 6cm away from my case, but it's a full ATX tower. Does just as good as my old watercooling did (came with the case so it was shit though.)
The hyper212+ is in no way silent, by the way. Loudest thing in my case by far.
i've got music constantly going so I don't give a shit about noise oh and the server rack about 2 meters away

Hyper212+ is by no means silent or the best cooler. The reason everyone suggest it is because it's so cheap. If you want a silent cooler, get the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Advanced or Dark Rock PRO.
That's like going into every pc building thread and suggesting dual watercooled 590s because it's the best.
No it's not. It's like recommending the 560 Ti over the 550 Ti. Besides, I wasn't suggesting the best - just a good quiet cooler.

There's also the Noctua NH-D14 if your have money to spend. Great, absolutely silent cooler.
My Akasa Venom cools my 40%+ overclocked 1055T like a beast and silently, compared to my brother's Hyper 212+ on a C2D which easily hits 70C+ on a 20% overclock and is always audible and annoyingly loud under load. I'm not recommending the Venom specifically as there are better coolers in its price range (Noctua etc.), but I recommend you spend a bit more.
Well, considering the noise, I don't think it can even come close to Phenom II stock cooler which hits 7000RPM's when it's really hot. Imagine how loud is that. Hyper 212+ is up to 2000 RPM, I think it's MUCH more quiet than this stock one. I'll look into all your suggestion, gotta check the stores to see what they got. Thankies.
Scythe Mugen 2 rev. b. Keeps my i7 860 at 30 degrees (celsius!) on idle with very little noise.

I meant the Mars II >.<
Still, quad 3GB 580's would be much better.
Why not 10 MARS II's when we're at it. Or just join together like 10 PC's with Quad MARS II's in each.

want true cooling, just use this beast http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3696972&CatId=499 if that beast doesn't cool your cpu, you should be worried.
