Alright guys so for the past couple of days I've been looking for decent drum kits to buy, only problem is that I don't know what to look for in one. The things I do know what I want is 3 cymbals (Hi-Hat, Crash, Ride and that other one that goes TSSHHHH like a crash but alot more smaller) and 4 or 5 toms.
Most of the kits I have seen are tagged as beginner kits which is my first question; what is the diffrence?.
Oh and I'm on a pretty tight budget aswell, I could probably go about just above 500$
And one more thing I forgot to mention, I'm not a beginner, I would class my self as pretty good at drums since I have an e-drum to play on but it kinda sucks and I would much prefer a acoustic kit.
That cymbal you described is a splash cymbals. They are fucking awesome.
But your budget is way too small for a kit that big unless you buy it second hand. You'd have to start off small and build your way up. Most beginner kits cost $500 but only consist of 3 toms and a crash (hi-hats are a given on any kit). You could mix your electronic kit into your acoustic and get some nice combinations though.
Just get a shitter and see if you like drumming. You may decide you prefer electric down the line even so no point getting anything to fancy right now.
Whatever you do don't get a Ludwig set. If you can try to get a Tama. Cymbal wise get sabian or paiste there cheap. The one thing you to know is that your never gonna be able to go the cheap route if you wanna get serious about drumming.
Okay guys right now I'm looking at something like this; http://perth.gumtree.com.au/c-Stuff-for-Sale-musical-instruments-percussion-drums-DRUMKIT-5PCE-ASHTON-GREAT-FOR-BEGINNER-W0QQAdIdZ213960784
Thoughts?
That's the kit I got. Take it. I've had mine for a while and it's really good apart from being unable to get rid of the rattle on the snare when I hit my high tom.
Usually, the actual drums are somewhat decent on beginner sets. The cymbals are most likely sounding pretty bad, but it's all about getting practice and see if you actually like drumming. After that, you'll know it's a good investment to buy something more pricey.
