Detroit Electric giving a look at the rear end of what it considers the final version of its SP:01 battery-fueled electric sports car.
The car will be somewhat similar to the Tesla Roadster no longer in production. Both are pure battery-power two-seaters based on Lotus designs. Detroit Electric's founder is former Lotus executive Albert Lam, former Group CEO of the Lotus Engineering Group and Executive Director of Lotus Cars of England.
Looks like a great improvement over their previous models.
You might find their history interesting, they were defunct for a long time until someone from Lotus revived them.

That's a pretty snazzy looking vehicle, I'd drive it.

Can't wait to see track day vs a Tesla Roadster.
can i finally ditch my gasoline fueled toaster?
They have gasoline toasters now? I'm still using my coal toaster.
They have gasoline toasters now? I'm still using my coal toaster.
There are toasters? And here I am rubbing pieces of bread together as fast as I can to generate heat...
Holy shit I never knew this company existed until I read this.
This is awesome.

The headlights give it away, the plastic looks fake. Thats how I always tell
There is some wierd shit going on with this car.
There is eyebrows on the car above the headlights and the mirrors are so out of place.

I like how you can use the car to charge another car, or act as a BBU for an entire home

"oh no it has pointless design features"
I'm not sure I want to drive something made in modern Detroit

For only a few dollars more, you can get it alongside your own gang of violent individuals to protect you, your family, and to lower land value of any desired location.

it's design exaggeration, look at the headlight design, high pressure zone in front would mean that the air wouldn't hit that fake vent anyway
also, car looks cool, from the rendering it looks like it's both a t-top and a mid-engine, which is also super cool
can i finally ditch my gasoline fueled toaster?
But now where will my breakfast get it's carcinogen flavour?

They're going to be made in England, the connection between the company and Detroit is entirely symbolic at this point.

Not buying this car, then.
Which one?
The first one.
They might resort for the cheaper British Midlands factories.
Its wheels are going to come off the moment it leaves the factory and it will roll over in every corner.
Exclusive to the SP:01 is a bi-directional charge technology in which the company coins as ‘360 Powerback’. A patented home charging and power back-up unit, this bi-directional technology will revolutionize the way electric cars are perceived and utilized in the future. Should there be a power failure in the home, working remotely, SAMI can communicate with the SP:01 to detect the loss in current and feed electricity from the car’s battery back into the home (i.e. ‘Vehicle to Home’). In the near future, the potential to earn money by selling the SP:01’s battery storage capacity back to the grid is also an option (i.e. ‘vehicle to grid’). Charging other electric vehicles nearby is also made possible with 360 Powerback (i.e. Vehicle to Vehicle). As purported by Mr. Albert Lam, CEO and Chairman of Detroit Electric Holdings, "The SP:01 is more than just a car, it is a mobile energy unit."
I was so excited thinking that the 1916 car was the one being manufactured as a way to bring classic horseless carriages back on modern American roads.
why, pray tell
It's not so much true nowadays, but British built cars were infamous for horrendous quality control. Like, worse than 1980s Chrysler bad.
Jaguar's electronics would rot out after a couple years and everything built by British Leyland was hilariously terrible.

Tesla has home battery systems.
http://www.solarcity.com/residential/energy-storage
It'll charge your car and your house when the powers out, and it never leaves your house.

Also, It's not a Detroit Electric, but it's a Baker Electric. Back when cars were first coming around, there were a few electric options. They died out quick.

New York City even had EV charging stations.

The point though is you cab drive your car anywhere and power a house or charge another car off of it. Its a phone that can charge other peoples phones.
