I've read so many people with their "advice", oh... you should get a thicker skin! You should just ignore it! Those people have no idea of the volume of it all, or how constant it is, it never stops, it's day in day out 24/7, no end in sight noise. So many people talking at once... It's death by a thousand cuts. That thick skin isn't invincible, occasionally it buckles and when it does I tend to react badly. I'm not sure you actually understand just how fucked up I am. My hair is going grey, not to mention it's falling out. Yeah, my hair is grey at 29. Great right? I'm pretty sure I have chronic health problems that have been made far worse by stress.
Source: http://www.reddit.com/r/Cynicalbrit/comments/1xrx27/in_light_of_tb_abandonning_his_own_subreddit/cfe3rgc TotalBiscuit has spoken out about stress and how he is now actively avoiding engaging with his audiences due to troll comments and non-constructive feedback. He has apparently abandoned his sub-reddit and Twitter account (now run by his staff) and in a Soundcloud post he speaks about seeking professional help. TB you cant be a utter cunt sometimes, but you do really get alot of shit for no reason. But heavy stress is not something to joke about really, and holy shit grey hair at 29?
-snip-
grey pride world wide
In my experience of TB, I haven't really noticed him being an asshole. Just very brutally honest in his critique.
I have one question that's bugged me forever. Why didn't he just shave his head? People who are bald but have beard look good. People who have a beard but are balding? Not so much.
Reading youtube comments or comments in general by random people causes brain cancer.+
I would love to be able to make as much money as he is.
Yeah, he is surely rolling youtube dosh. enough to fix permanent mental damage(most likely), physical damage and therapy costs. not to mention that it isn't that high.

TB is no more of a cunt than anybody else, it's just easy to criticize someone who's in the public eye. People who give him shit seem to forget that he's a critic and not your acquaintance or a friend. It's obvious that these people who care so much are somekind of friendless misanthropes who need to distance themselves from their Youtube surrogate friends and go outside.
Here comes the people that think money solves everyone's problems. And then the people that have no respect for people with that much money because they think the money itself makes up for it.
Well maybe if you weren't a dick to your fans you wouldn't get a lot of hate. How does he have a thick skin? He through a guest off a podcast because the guest's roommate called him an ass after he said something rude.
I would love to be able to make as much money as he is.
Happiness is relative. We all think "oh if I just had this I'll be happy" "if I was in his position I would be so care free" "If I had that much cash I would be the happiest man on earth" It doesn't work like that. I would know. 2 Years ago I thought to myself "If I can just get into college I'll be the happiest man on earth, nothing will stress me out." A year later: "If I can just get that girl to go out with me I dont see how I could be unhappy" It goes on. Now I'm sitting here in said college and in a 1.5 year relationship with the girl of my dreams and I'm struggling with depression about the uncertainty of my future.

My hair is going grey and falling out too at 22, it's actually pure white in patches at the back and I get strands of it in my hands when I wash my hair. Its not stress that does it its something else entirely, a mix of hereditary and vitamin deficiency (Along with a history of alcohol abuse in my case) I can see how its scary for the poor guy, if I wasn't comfortable in my current situation It would have a serious effect on my well being.
He's only 29, I thought he was older damn
I think what makes TB such an easy target to point out is because he doesn't try to be nice and chummy with his audience. I personally prefer that; I watch his content because ocassionally I find it interesting. I am not looking to be best buds with a guy who makes youtube videos and has never met me. I remember seeing that screencap of him calling a youtuber a statistic and nothing more, which admittedly is something I am not approving of, but at the end of the day he really is right. He has no need to go out of his way and embrace his audience (I wouldn't either if I was in his shoes; youtube is a shithole). It really is a shame that people are being called out for not hopping in to the friendship boat and instead prefer to lounge about on the professionalism boat. Not to say that TB is a shining example fo a professional; he has admitted himself that he has issues reacting to attacks, but he till retains that strictly business facade, which I like. You don't get to the point where you can make a living off of youtube without selling your self out and being a cuhrayzee personality without a lot of good in you, and it's a shame that he has such a hard time seeing that in himself.

I'm 19, I work at Walmart midnight shifts part-time, rake in about 350 a paycheck. I live with my mom, and little brother -- I fork my entire check for bills, and I'm usually left with like 40 bucks to my name after a month. But I'm like... a very happy person, generally. Very content, albeit sometimes bored -- but I never wanted to do much in life, just to live and be content. A lot of people can't handle that, though. They look at me and say I'm a failure, or I have no future. They're the ones who're stressing out, having health issues, ect. I'm just 'go-with-the-flow', carefree sort of lifestyle. I'm almost positive I could be homeless and still be happier than like, 80% of people who rake in 40k+ a year.
If I was put in TB's situation with the gaming audience which is filled with dimwitted dark age idiots I'd go insane too, especially if I had to deal with people who have no regard for anybody else but themselves and can't see past the tip of their nose, people can really screw your life and people saying he should get a thicker skin, they should try getting one themselves instead of boasting about shit they never experienced in their lives, they can't even get a thicker skin when their opinion is on the line or their favourite game. These people should even try to work 1/4 as hard as some of the streamers and see how their content is made, it's not magically spawning out of someone else's finger tips, but I guess that's what dark age idiots like to think.
While I do feel TB can be a bit ignorant at times, I still hope that this thing works out in the best way it could.
Almost all of the comments he replied to were from trolls and shit anyway and he has said MULTIPLE times that the stress gets to him and he just snaps sometimes. And can you blame him? He deals with thousands of people like you every day calling him a dick for no reason. It gets to your head after awhile.
I can blame TB for that. He is the one that chose the life he is living. He didnt have to become a 'youtube star' and face criticism from millions of people. If he cant handle the stress, he could always just stop the youtube stuff and get a real job. From what i understand, he is fairly well known. Im sure someone out there would either give him a job, or assist him in getting one. If not, there are a lot of jobs out there, and he could surely find one thats much less stressful
There's a difference between being a cunt and being tough but fair.
Must have missed his twitter "I'm right you're wrong! You're a nobody, your opinions don't matter compared to mine!" rant he had a year or so ago.
I have heard the sound recording earlier and I have decided to follow his example... if I can get help covered at least partially by health insurance, private therapists are fucking expensive here.
If comments on the Internet are being a problem in your life, change your life in such a way that you don't have to read them anymore (which he seems to have done, but from what I've read IMO he took too long). You can't eat cake every day and hope to not get fat, just like you can't read comments from thousands of people directed at you and hope that they'll all be nice. I don't understand (and by this I mean I actually don't personally understand in the sense that I haven't been through this experience) why so many content creators complain about this when there are seemingly very visible and/or obvious solutions available.

Just FYI, he didn't choose to become it, it happened by chance, and he kinda had to take the offer from TGS or he'd have to file for bankruptcy back then.

Also, people pointing out that he's an unlikable douche != trolls

Holy shit he's 29? I always thought he was like 40 or something.
Sure he chose, he chose to continue it and could have decided not to go that route at any time. I don't dedicate myself to shitting on them.

They certainly deal with those same problems somehow without going insane and they get the same (probably more) type of attention. What I'm trying to say is that it's probably not some unsolvable problem that will lead everyone who experiences it towards a path of self destruction and suffering.
