• Experimenting with Ink and Charcoal

So I've been doing some experimenting using some inks and charcoal for an art project at college (focused around images of conflict) So I thought i'd put some up here for your viewing pleasure (some are a little messy as the ink bled a little more than I had expected) Butcher Violence No Mercy Mercy Kill
You've got a good grasp on dynamic angles, but you could use some practice with anatomy. Violence is the best of this lot, I think, because the indistinct form adds to the action, but no mercy and mercy kill have some pretty awful blocky arms. Also, try to get more of a color gradient like in violence. chunks of color like in butcher make it look like ms paint, and those primaries in mercy kill are all over the place. the human form is something every artist struggles with, but the sooner you master it the better.
Yeah, thats the opinion shared by several other forum users, my anatomy generally fails haha. However, the anatomy was looking nicer in several of these, but the way which the ink bled makes the forms look a little bit more simplified. I forgot to mention, these are pretty small, between A4 ad A5 in size, a plan on doing some bigger ones in the week which should retain detail a bit better(hopefully haha)
One of the guy's left hand in Violence has six fingers (including thumb).
chances are its just part of the charcoal sketch I started with, I tend to go over lines again and it looks like ive added fingers or toes haha. I normally sort it out for neater work but I think these pieces look better when they are a bit rough
