I don't get why children, at the age of the target demographic of spongebob,
even need to have smartphones.
It's not like they are using it to anything other than social-networking
(which, by the way they are also too young for) and games which might or might not be addictive.
Not to mention it can bring cyber bullying into the life of a child very early.
if it's basic communication they need then a phone call or a text message works just fine,
and the parents have more control over the amount of use when they use prepaid phones.

Papa or mama had an extra smartphone laying around so to save money they just buy a subscription for it. And then the kid wants a neat game on it so papa or mama buys a spongebob game.
