Sometimes cpu will max out for no reason even when playing APB beta, wondering if I should upgrade my cpu?
windows 7 32bit
amd athlon 64 x2 6000+ 3.2ghz dual core
xfx radeon hd 4870 1gb
4gb ram (3 1gb sticks of 800mhz, 1 1gb of 533mhz)
going to try and take out the 533mhz stick of ram and see how the comp runs
You have the APB Beta, I could play it for you while you update your cpu.

The game is alpha, maybe that's why?

Indeed, the smoke particles make my computer burn when they engage, and i'm on a 5870.
Looks like its the video card, try getting a new one.

Post a screenshot of your full processes when it starts to lag, if somethings spiking like balls, end it and see what happens after you take the screenshot. Post results?
I don't lag on a dual 2.9, why would you need to upgrade? I doubt its a hardware issue.
Seems to mostly happen when I play 2 games at once like second life and WoW or second life and sims 3 but on vista I rarely had a issue like this
