• Suggest a soundcard?
    1 replies, posted
Hi there, I have recently decided to move from gaymer headset's into the good stuff. I've done a fair bit of reading on Head Fi and a few other forums, and have decided on a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 250ohm. Now I need help with choosing a sound-card that will give me excellent Virtual Surround, so I am able to pinpoint sounds accurately. Does anyone have experience with CMSS AND Dolby Headphone? Which is better? Or if anyone has any other suggestions, I'm all ears. Thanks for your time, if you choose to give it to me. Also, if anyone would like to post what setup they are using for gaming, and how it fairs, please feel free, maybe I haven't made the best choice of headphones.
Dolby Headphone rapes voip apps such as mumble (becomes echoy, loud and headache-inducing), not sure about CMSS3D in that respect. I could only ever use Dolby Headphone for single player games and movies, for which it is absolutely excellent. The ideal setup is a cheap soundcard that implements either technology connected by S/PDIF to a compatible DAC such as a Fiio E17. I'm using a Xonar DX -> S/PDIF -> Fiio E17 -> Beyerdynamic DT150
