I found something funny that I thought I should share. As I was checking out the high schools in Denmark (through wiki), I stumbled upon this school. On its homepage, there was a drop-down box where it said "speeddating". I clicked, and heres what I saw:
Speed Dating
Are you lonely at HG? Surely not! For each year there is speeddating, where you over a 2 hour session meet a lot of friends you did not know before. When the bell (gonggong) rings, you swap places with one another - and so it is important to tell and listen. We can achieve much in just a few minutes. And it happens at school!
What an amazing intiative to get their students to socialize more.
Agree y/n
We had this at my school
This isn't news.
id totally fuck the chick in the picture all the way on the right.
certainly not, I do not believe this helps with anything, you won't get friends by listening to eachother for a little time
Sounds pretty lame if you ask me
Good they don't force it on you. I fucking hate it when teachers decide to do those social games when you are new.
When i started at college, we did a ball throwing game. You had to name the person who threw you the ball. Shit was horrible.

This.
I'm not 5, I am actually able to get to know people without some overexcited excuse for a teacher throwing a ball around.
I used to make myself sick to avoid school.
I remember I was smoking weed and drinking instead.

You definitely have a type.
that's a strange idea... I suppose some people'd use it, but really, most people can make friends on their own..?
First thing that came to mind;

There you go.
You go to parties on the weekend, get wasted, fuck a random sophomore, and then date her for 3 months because you feel obligated.
At least, that's what happened with me.

creep
I thought school was to be for learning, not for gallivanting around and talking to people. It's a waste of taxpayer money if you ask me.
we had a similar thing back in my old high school...just for 1 year and that is it

I can expect this in freshman years in highschool, but college?
They tried this at my old school, it didn't work. The kids that got ignored before that were still ignored.

You can't really force people with a quiet, unassertive personality to change the way they've been for most of their life by forcing them through a series of awkward encounters.
Makes sense.
This is quite ridiculous.
I think that this is awesome. People meeting other people is great. I don't see why people are so opposed to meeting new people. :colbert:

Well SOMEONE has no friends. :colbert:

More like you can't get the preppy girls and jock guys to care about people who aren't in their clique
It's a good way of mixing with one another. you get to know people of different races and religion. A good way to promote racial tolerance and harmony
Well SOMEONE has no friends. :colbert:
I actually do have friends, but I only attribute their friendship with me as a casualty of having to talk to people.
In general, the people who are going to socialize with each other outside of a little 2 hour speed date session like this are already doing that. There's something to be said for getting people out of their "comfort zone", but all this will do is put them in awkward conversations with people they likely have nothing in common with (otherwise they'd already be socializing), and let assholes do that little "humor you but really make fun of you" thing they do if the awkward kid somehow actually starts talking about himself. We've all seen it before.

THIS THIS THIS.
One of my teachers made us (and I'm not lying) play that ball game every day for a whole week. Still never bothered to learn everybody's names.

Not really, im friends with the "jocks" and I used to be the socially awkward kid. As long as you're not a dickhead or really awkward around people, you won't be an outcast.
