I just saw the trailer for the 'Nightmare on Elm Stree' remake. And I was wondering if this is a good idea, coupled with all the other remakes Hollywood has shartted out? (I.E. *THE* Final Destination, Halloween, Friday the 13th, etc.):psyboom:
I rarely watch the Hollywood remakes
Mediocre at best.
I sometimes watch a remake for a laugh, but I rarely think they'll be good.
The Thing was a great one and the fly was good too.
Baaaaaad.
King Kong was decent
King Kong, The Fly, The Thing and a few others seem to be the only good remakes. Every other remake is mediocre at the most, and the rest are crap. Just look at The Day the Earth Stood Still, the remake was pretty bad.
Actually I'd say The Day The Earth Stood Still was decent, but inadvertently rather than intentionally.
I heard "The Crazies" is supposed to be better than the original.
Bad.
Name 2 good ones.
Dawn of the Dead.
King Kong.
The Fly.
The only good remake I've ever seen is either King Kong or the Longest Yard.
King Kong fucking sucked what the hell are you all on about?
Also The Final Destination is not a remake it's just another craptacular sequel.
I'm personally tired of remakes, I mean... why does Hollywood think that we want to pay to see the same fucking movie twice?
I can understand remaking films that came out before the use of computers but it's just getting ridiculous now.
However, I welcome the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street just because I can't wait to see how they handle the dream sequences with today's hardware and to see Jackie Earle as Freddy.
i liked The Crazies
Why can't they make some original films?
I'd be fine with remakes if they took really old movies, for instance black and white movies, and just gave them color and kept it mostly the same, but usually they change it too much and it becomes a shit movie.
depends on the director and stuff
Final Destination is not a classic to begin with, so it doesn't really apply to this scenario.
However I don't think it's a terrible thing to try remaking older classic films with modern technology. I mean even if they aren't as good, I dont think it in any way ruins the integrity of the original, so what's the harm?
I'm pretty fucking stoked about the Nightmare on Elm Street remake. I grew up watching the original Nightmare on Elm Street series. I've grown up with Freddy Krueger, and I can't wait to see how Jackie Early will compare to Robert Englund. The only thing I have beef with is that they're removing Freddy's twisted sense of humor.
As long as they don't touch good films, like Back to the Future trilogy.

Why? It's not like Aliens, Blade Runner or The Thing would be any better as CGI wankfests. They'd probably look worse.
Most of them are not that good. Maybe once in a while there is a good one. Can't pull one off the top of my head right now though.

Luckily most of the films getting remade are all b-movies that have cult followings.
I very much doubt we'd have to worry about the genuinely fantastic films getting remade.

Well, at least Avatar was original... oh wait.

You mean like the remake of Psycho? It was a shot-for-shot modern replica of the original, just with colour and different actors.

I can think of about 3 other movies with an almost identical plot to Avatar, but I still liked it.
I fucking loved King Kong. And the game of it.
Bad.

I guess it can introduce a new generation to the film who otherwise might not consider seeing it. That said though, remakes aren't always faithful to the original, let alone decent.
Original films are definitely better if they aren't awful.
