What are the essential tools that you always should have in your car? My stuff: Copper wire Wire cutters Zip ties Hose clamps Various screwdrivers Hammer Electrical tape Garbage bags Some sort of steel wire Allen keys to loosen the wires on my sub's amp Jumper cables Small plastic snow shovel Ice scraper with built in squeegee Washer fluid Whatever oil was left in the jug when I did my last oil change Assorted rags First aid / emergency kit LED headlamp I need to throw in a small socket / wrench set in there at some point, though besides that I feel decently prepared...
I have a first aid kit, tire pump and gauge, jumper cables, flashlight, raincoat and umbrella, and a small tool kit with wrenches and a screwdriver. I'd fit a small jack in there too, but I don't need it since my car doesn't carry a spare tire anyways :v:
Socket and driver bit set, jumper leads, the jack and spare that came with the car.
A little kit that I found in my garage which has jumper leads, a screwdriver with a changeable head, small socket set, 20 fuses, electrical tape, and some medical things like a bandage and band aids I think.
cheap standard socket set. maybe a 40-50 piece or something with extensions. torx and various bits. crescent wrench jumper cables flash light. tire plugs. tire pump. tow rope. a couple fuses a first aid kit from a 2007 toyota camry se i had. decent little kit. poncho reflective triangle zip ties or 3 black tape. a cheap fleece blanket. some wire and connectors. all in a reflective leather bag in keep in the rear driver side floor board of my current car. i started carrying and adding to it this when i worked in the mountains. it was a 90 minute drive into parts of the state where no one was around. i was driving a 98 tacoma then, after toyota bought it back i started driving an 81 toyota pickup 4wd, i kept stuff to fix any thing that might pop up( changed a fuel pump with this kit.). now i changed jobs got a new car and i tossed it in it. ive used it a few times at work helping people. 1 distributor 1 Rotor 2 extra spark plug wires Full SAE socket set with 3 extensions, 3/8 drive and 1/2" drive Phillips and Flat HEad Screwdriver Full SAE set box end wrenches 2 Ballast resistors 2 glass fuses 20 feet of 12v speaker wire (can be used to bypass anything) Pack of zip ties hydraulic jack off a Toyota Tacoma (nice and compact) RTV black RTV copper #2 gas safe permatex Industrial Jumper Cable 20' of 3/8" halyard line Random lengths of 3/8ID coolant hose 2' piece of 1/4" fuel line With just these things, I can repair almost anything on my car on the side of the road. It all fits in a nice classic looking metal toolbox in the trunk, just a little bigger than a car battery, except for the rope, and jumper cables and jack.
I only carry jumping leads and a towing strap rated for 18-wheelers. Because my Audi either breaks down at the house or I can alwase just limp it back. Ohhh and I know people who would not give a single fuck to come and get me. Because I came and got him over a million times already.
No trunk here, so everything i carry has to be hidden. Spare tire Jack+handle Jumper cables HD Duct tape Wrench set Socket+ratchet set Flat and phillips screwdrivers Pliers OBDII scanner Adjustable wrench Utility knife Tire pressure gauge Electrical tape Panel clips And other things im sure im forgetting
Spare oil and coolant because Alfa
I keep an accident safety kit filled with all kinds of things that are reflective orange, a first-aid kit, a spare tire, a jack, lug nut tool, flashlight, mechanix gloves, and a AAA card. Keeping it light. I usually have heavy passengers, so the less weight on my already dying struts the better. My backpack which I take with me most of the time for school has all the ratchets, sockets, zip ties, and digital multimeter for everything else. can't forget Torque and OBDII adapter to log and clear DTC's and monitor temps/fuel economy
Cheap Duralast low profile floor jack Breaker Bar with the socket to remove my lug nuts Jumper cables Stanley 201 Piece Mechanic's Tool Set A tool bag containing: Mechanix Gloves (In case I get a flat and don't want my hands to get dirty for W/E reason) All of my electrical tools (including 50' of 12v automotive wire) Random "special" tools I may need for w/e happens SCT X3 Power Flash Programmer (The ability to read/clear DTCs and data log/monitor whenever I need to is very useful) I basically carry all of my tools except for my CDI torque wrench. But all of my tools weigh less than the trunk liner that WAS in there. Also, I carry a bottle of octane booster in case I ever have a brain fart and put regular instead of 93 octane in my car. That has also saved my ass several times.....
A socket set with every sockets needed to disassemble anything on my car Knife OBD2 Dongle for torque Zip ties Jack that came with the car Then my CAA card that can get me towed to my house so I have any tools I need to do whatever. :v:
man-piece socket set, giant slot screwdriver, normal sized phillips screwdriver, jack, adjustable box wrench, and a 3ft crowbar painted like Freeman's.
-Hayes service manual -Flashlight -Tire jack and iron -Length of hose to loop the exhaust pipe inside in case I give up.
I prefer the breathing tube I carry that connects to the A/C service port for when I give up.
I'm finally at the point where I can say I can pretty much live out of my truck for an extended period (weeks/months) of time if need be. hell if I have enough time to grab my BOB (aka bug out bag a larger version of the kit in the falcon II in a marine ILBE Ruck) I can pretty much survive indefinitely 283pc tool set 55 pc 1/2 drive impact socket set a 15" and a 24" 1/2 drive breaker bar a couple tow straps and a bubba rope 2 ton floor jack and a set of stands 48" hi-lift jack 1 gallon each of ATF and 5W20 and 2 gallons of pre-mix coolant with water wetter in it 2/0g jumper cables 5 gallons of fuel and 5 gallons of water an extra set of plugs and wires and an extra fuel filter, air filter and oil filter various pieces of radiator/fuel hose couple spools of 12-16G wire extra fuses an army ECWCS parka and an extra pair of gore-tex lined boots an ECWCS sleep system 2 mylar blankets and an old swiss issue wool blanket 2 large (10'x15') OD green tarps Ruger 10/22 in 17HM2 and 200 rounds maxpedition falcon II with a trauma kit (think a first aid kit on steroids) katadyn hiker pro water filter 500' of paracord 3 extra sets of clothes 4 pairs of boot socks SOG seal pup in a yellow hawk tactical kydex sheath on one of the molle panels fire starter kit (flint and steel couple of bics a mini torch lighter and a couple of vaseline soaked cotton balls in a film canister) fenix PD35 LED light and 10 extra 18650 cells small fishing/snare kit (spool of 10lb test fishing line, hooks, sinkers, 24g snare wire) sharpened paracord wrapped EOD breacher bar 5 days of food (mountain house and shelf stable stuff) laminated USGS topo maps of the surrounding 4 counties
-end of the world survivalist-
I have failed to find your AR-15 in your post.
I have failed to find your AR-15 in your post.
I take that as a compliment  I go wheeling/trail riding alot and most of the places I go are either very difficult or impossible to get to with anything less then 35's all that stuff is basically ok the worst has happened now lets fix it and get home. EDIT: and if it's any consolation I do keep a 10/22 rifle in the truck and 2 AR's at home
the only things in my trunk are below in the compartments (I literally hate having anything in my car but the bare minimums) - small ratchet kit that i actually give to other people as i never need to use it - ratchet for exhaust tips incase they fuck up again - 3 microfiber towels - 2 bottles of quick detail - 1 bottle of glass detail o and my cars battery is in the back too does that count??? I don't carry runflat or a tire inflator because i pay for towing and if i killed a tire it probably isn't safe to just runflat it, and if i need to inflate it then the tire is done.
I've got a craftsmen 192~pc tool set, minus whatever tools were borrowed and never made it back to me..., jack stands-because I have no where else to put them :(, a jack, a screw driver, a bottle of oil, usually a spare jug of washer fluid but I just emptied my last jug, aaaand I've got a bucket I got from Napa in there too I guess. A random towel that I'm not sure how it ended up in my trunk, and some freeze gear from work. :v: Oh, and a block of wood to use as a chock for my wheels. All that shit AND my sub box.
-3/8" and 1/4" extendable dual purpose ratchet -3/8" deep and regular socket sets -screwdriver set -allen keys -metric wrench set -picks -stock vertical jack -extra bottle jack -3' breaker bar that sits next to me in the drivers seat, juuuuust in case someone follows me -oil -headlamp -couple detailing towels All that in my teensy trunk with a 12" subwoofer.

Socket and driver kit, toolbox with bunch of stuff in it. Maybe jumper cables, can't remember [editline]22nd September 2014[/editline] Most of the tools see work on my friends cars, not mine :v: I like to keep my trunk empty as possible, hauling extra weight is no good plus it's nice to actually fit something in there [editline]22nd September 2014[/editline] (which is why I have been borrowing my 12" sub to my friend for past 2 years)

I'm pretty unprepared, i have about 3 quarts of oil and jumper cables behind the seat of my truck.
Shit...I need to figure out what my brother did with my jumper cables.
I used to carry tools in my car, until I found out they were one of my rattles. Since my cars have never left me stranded in anyway I no longer carry any sort of tools outside of a leatherman in my Integra. My teg didn't come with the tool kit or jack, I used the spare tire to sell a shell so it has nothing in the trunk. My Civic came with the tool kit, jack, spare and manual so those are still in the car although I need to lift a tool kit/bag from a newer Honda so the stupid tools don't fly around when I hit bumps. So, I carry absolutely nothing. Jumping other cars is terrible on the charging system, I'm not using my teg since I stupidly replaced an alternator for no reason and the Civic is all original everything but the starter which was original but completely welded/seized after I filled up the tank, got tags for it and drove it around for the second time never to work again. I'm a AAA member, free tows for 100 miles!
50 quarts of oil. Funnel. Tissue for my tears
