Pornography officially is bad for you, according to the Virginia House of Delegates. In a bipartisan, 82-8 vote, the House approved a resolution Thursday recognizing that porn leads to “individual and societal harms,” a watered-down version of the measure introduced by Del. Robert G. Marshall, R-Prince William, that originally called porn a “public health hazard.” Nine delegates did not vote. The resolution, which expresses the opinion of the House and calls generally for education, research and social change, lays out a litany of evils associated with porn. It may lead to the “hypersexualization of teenagers,” “may normalize violence and abuse,” “equates violence with sex and pain with pleasure” and “is linked to an increased likelihood that individuals will engage in group intercourse.” Broadly, the resolution says porn is biologically addictive and hurts families.
http://www.richmond.com/news/virginia/article_a9fa240a-6fdc-5d0e-bce6-e9b92c3c6837.html
It may lead to the “hypersexualization of teenagers,” “may normalize violence and abuse,” “equates violence with sex and pain with pleasure” and “is linked to an increased likelihood that individuals will engage in group intercourse.”
One of these things is not like the others.
The only reason anyone could like porn is because it's "biologically addictive". There's no way people naturally have sex drives or anything. And fetishes? Dear god, call the cops, people aren't having sex in the missionary position! The only way it could hurt your family is if you don't communicate with your spouse. Which is already a sign that things could be going better. or if you don't knock on your kid's door before going in their room or if you're into auto-erotic asphyxiation
I'm not gonna comment on banning porn but I will say this, porn addiction is a real issue and it does have a whole host of problems with it.
My understanding of it is that you can get really attached to porn but that's just a symptom of a larger issue.
I'm not gonna comment on banning porn but I will say this, porn addiction is a real issue and it does have a whole host of problems with it.
People get addicted to *everything*. No matter what it is, someone is addicted to it. We can't ban everything because some tiny ass percentile of the population can't discipline themselves with it
Ban oxygen, it's addicting and flammable
Why not just... educate people on sex ed, you know, like that thing called Sex Ed. Also, inform them about pornography and the difference between regular sex and actual sexual violence. If this is enforced, then this will only make any real issues worse. It always does.
My understanding of it is that you can get really attached to porn but that's just a symptom of a larger issue.
You can get addicted to porn as easily as you can get addicted to gambling, or gaming, or sex. If you have an addictive personality and you have easy access to media that makes you happy, there is a non-zero chance that you can get addicted to it. But, since it's not a chemical addiction, weaning yourself off it is much easier, and going cold turkey won't kill you.
“hypersexualization of teenagers,” “may normalize violence and abuse,” “equates violence with sex and pain with pleasure”
New rule- porn can only be written and directed by women. I mean that's where all the good stuff is anyway
I'm not gonna comment on banning porn but I will say this, porn addiction is a real issue and it does have a whole host of problems with it.
It is a real issue, yeah. Internet addiction and video game addiction are also real issues. Alcohol addiction is a much, much bigger issue, but we still keep alcohol legal. I mean, we tried to make it illegal once. It didn't go so well. It just punished those who could control themselves while making any source of alcohol go underground and not actually treating anyone who was addicted. I imagine a porn ban would go a similar way. Not that you support the ban, though. I'm just saying.

How the fuck were there not protests about this? I walk by the state capitol building four times a week, there's protests frequently when it's in session, even for stupid shit. There was a protest in support of a natural gas pipeline on Monday, where the hell were the pro-porn protests? And 80+ in favor? That means they must have gotten Democrats to support it, somehow. I'd bet this got stuck onto a much bigger bill.

Same thing with gun violence. Taking away the guns does jack shit, same with porn with porn addiction. [editline]2nd February 2017[/editline] Also, this whole idea about porn not being addictive or how porn addiction is really nothing shows the level of ignorance people can display. Porn addiction is a wider problem than you realize. Coming from a porn addict myself, I can promise there are boatloads of people you don't even realize who are struggling with it.
http://fightthenewdrug.org/ has a lot of of information on the subject of pornography addiction.
One thing I wanna make clear to the rest is, the NoFap thing is retarded and porn addiction is unfortunately not been investigated enough yet so there is no absolute PROOF of ALL of this stuff you may read about. I will say this too, there is a lot of BS effects from quiting porn some talk about that are really just placebo. Some people make porn recovery sound better than it really is too. So please don't think it's like some cult full of morons graveling over placebo effects they think they're experiencing.

I'm just glad I live in California where the stupid part of our legislation is focused on guns
I'm just glad I live in California where the stupid part of our legislation is focused on guns
I'm glad I live in Illinois. All we have to deal with is political corruption. And no official budget. And high taxes. And fucking Chicago.
While, I disagree with the ban. It's effects are clear, sustain exposure rewires your brains neurons to adjust and eventually bypassing higher brain functions and gives more control to mid and lower brain essentially bypass the freedom of will and self-control. Furthermore the only way to restore the original pathways is to remove the person from society to allow their brain the time to restore itself to pristine condition without any external interference. It's a scary thing.

Why do I get the impression these are the same kind of people that would tell you you'll grow hair on the palms of your hands if you masturbate too much?
Just criminalize sex unless it's for the sole purpose of procreation. That'll show those perverts.
I don't look at porn but this is pretty stupid
Well you know the old saying, "Virginia is for virgins."
The resolution, which expresses the opinion of the House and calls generally for education, research
I sure hope these researchers take into account potential benefits of porn and don't just jump into it with pre-determined conclusions like it sounds like they will.
Jesus christ that is stupid :v:
its serious ok I have a friend who is addicted to whacking it he saw a porn once and he almost died when he touched his donger, im worried he might engage in pre-marital sex and die
Just criminalize sex unless it's for the sole purpose of procreation.
