John Coates, the vice-president of the International Olympic Committee, has called Brazil's preparations for the 2016 Rio Games "the worst" in his experience and critically behind schedule, but warned there was no "plan B" to find another host.
Attending an Olympic forum in Sydney, Coates told delegates that construction had not commenced on some venues, infrastructure was significantly delayed and water quality was also a major concern two years out from the Games.
"The IOC has formed a special task force to try to speed up preparations but the situation is critical on the ground," Coates said on Tuesday in a statement released by the Australian Olympic Commission, which transcribed some of his comments at the forum.
I thought this thread was going to be about that absolutely dreadful Rio 2 movie.
Wonder what the fallout will be after this and Sochi. A shift back to the first world?
The Olympics are a freaking joke. It's a giant corporate commercial, the Olympic Committee has repeatedly accepted bribes, and the host cities get to bankrupt themselves building a bunch of shit they don't need that doesn't help them economically in the long run.

I'm not sure about brazil, whether or not they have the manpower or enough skilled workers to complete this on time, but if they are very behind schedule, maybe another country should buy out the rights to host the olympics?

the issue is definitely not manpower, i'm sure we have plenty of skilled people considering we are the 5th most populous country in the world. it's just that most of the money ends up going to corrupt politicians and such, instead of being used to hire competent people. hell, we're a couple of months away from the world cup and last i checked, the stadium in my city is FAR from complete
What did they expect? They have no time to work when they're partying 24/7.
It's fucking Rio.
Brazil is a fucking mess right now, public transport got even worse where i live. I have no fucking idea how a stranger will be able to get by in here, no one knows how to speak anything other than their native language and theres no fucking guides to help people.
