• Which runs games faster: W7 or XP?

I need to delete a partition of my hard drive because having it split is taking up way too much room. I have a choice between XP or W7. All I do is go on the internet and play games, be it off steam or from a disk, and I need to know which OS is better for doing that kind of thing. I thought it was XP for a while, but after reading a little I think I'm leaning toward W7, but I'm not certain on any of them.
Whats your specs?
You're not going to notice a huge difference in performance so go for whichever one you prefer.
Depends what games really, and soon enough most games are probably going to discontinue support for XP
Whats your specs?
Intel Core 2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz 3.00 GHz, 3.25 GB of RAM
Id say 7 then
For some reason Windows 7 runs games better than XP on mid-high end rigs than on low end pcs. Probably has something to do with better hardware optimization. But yeah, get XP.

It's not that I hate XP or have any prejudice against it, it's just that it makes no sense to me to get XP when you have the option to get something newer and more future-proof at no extra cost.
I would just go for Win7 64 bit. There really is no reason for XP unless your PC is very low end or have special hardware that only has xp drivers.
2.40GHz 3.00 GHz, 3.25 GB of RAM
what
what
Hes reading it from the windows system info rather than giving the proper spec.
Windows 7 64bit. Easy decision, you will never go back.

your computer seems capable of running windows 7 just fine, there is literally NO reason you should be using XP. you forgot to mention your graphics card, though any current one will probably not have any problem rendering your games alongside aero.
There are many many reasons why you should choose windows 7 (for example, sheer security) over XP. The only reason you should remain with XP is if your hardware is unable to support 7. EDIT; Or on the off-chance somehow an application you use is unsupported by 7. But then you have virtualization software which you can get for free like VirtualBox (or if you have Ultimate/Enterprise versions of Win7, Virtual PC) to emulate XP (on your Windows 7 desktop) without needing to dual-boot.
W8 for W8. No, but seriously get 7.
who is spamming informative ratings. just use w7, its an upgraded xp really. w7 has the same load as xp, maybe a little more, but its worth it.

Everyone is informative. But yeah, go with Win7 64bit.
This post is not informative

Christ, so many informative ratings. I have been using Windows 7 to get comfortable before I delete XP permanently. So once I format the XP partition the 35 gigs that was used on XP will automatically dump itself over to W7? I sure hope so.
There is no reason you should go to XP. That is like driving to work in a chariot (while awesome as it maybe) where you could use a normal car and not be habitually late or cold as hell during winter. You do not want to downgrade at all. I have been using windows 7 for half a year, and I have to tell you, it feels nice that I do not have to worry about half the viruses or the lack of support.
No, it won't. It depends on where the 7 partition is. If the 7 partition is before the XP one, you can extend the 7 partition once XP's been turned into unallocated space and it'll all become one partition. If it's after the XP partition, you're fucked if you wanted to combine the two. Otherwise, you can make another partition and it'll register as another "drive" under 7.
How can I tell if the W7 partition comes first? I was thinking of keeping XP and getting rid of W7, but now that i've gotten comfortable with W7 I'm liking it a lot more than XP.
How can I tell if the W7 partition comes first?
If you right click on the "Computer" link in the Start Menu and click on "Manage" you can see the partitions there under "Disk Management". If the Win7 partition is on the left side of the XP partition, it is before the XP one. If it is on the right, it is after and cannot be merged with the Win7 one.
