So my mouse cursor started "hovering" and moving on its own. I have this problem with every mouse I buy. Mostly they have been cheap and disposable but about a year ago or so I got a Cyborg RAT 5, which I thought was a decent mouse and assumed this kind of thing wouldn't happen. Mouse filters are off, there are no old mouse drivers installed on my PC and I'm sick of cleaning the sensor to no avail (it just comes and goes). The mouse is impossible to disassemble too so I can't try and clean the inside of it.
Since all mice go bad on me I'm obviously doing something wrong. Does anyone have any helpful advice?

Is the mouse being lifted off the mousing surface when it happens? The old RAT 5's had z-tracking issues.
What surface are you using? It sounds like it's really dirty. There's probably a hair stuck in the sensor, check it and if you see anything take it out with tweezers.
No it's not being lifted, I'm just using it normally. Even when I'm not touching it at all it jitters. My mousepad is clean (I've probably cleaned it 15 times this week trying to make this mouse work) and so is the sensor.
I tried alternating between the mousepad and a sheet of plain white paper but the problem doesn't go away.
did you even look at the sensor to see if there were any small hairs in it?
Try using another mouse.
I had this same problem around 4 years ago with my old Copperhead, all I did to fix it was shove a Q-Tip up the sensor to clean it.

If you think this is a joke, it's not. Little hairs can seriously fuck with the optics.

Yes, I've been looking for dirt or hairs in it but there's nothing, it's clean. I've cleaned it with a brush tons of times now, Q-tips don't fit, but I was careful and I'm positive there's no hairs there. The problem's still there too.
Other mice work fine.
Try using the same mouse and mousepad with a different computer.
thanks for the suggestion, tried it but the problem still persists... I guess I'm going to have to get a new one.
Pisses me off that I'm probably gonna have to go with another Saitek cyborg since I'm so used to 4000dpi resolution and being able to change dpi quickly midgame. I can't find another mouse like this.
Mouse ghost
You tried exorcism? To sort out your posessed mouse.
I moved my furniture yesterday. Ever since I did, the problem seems to have subsided although mouse movement is not as reliable as it was (I think this might be from me messing with the settings too much though). Also, the strange alien sounds I was hearing on my microphone stopped, and my keyboard is typing normally again (it was typing backwards, right to left before I moved the furniture I shit you not). I think it's the spot where my computer used to be that is haunted, anyone know of a good exorcist they can recommend me??
I wonder if it was interference. Maybe there's some bad wiring near that spot?
Judging from the microphone sound that seems to be the case but I had no idea bad wiring could interfere with cursor movement? Anyway thanks for the replies everyone.

I'm a registered priest in a voodoo cult. I can help you. (Don't ask why, all I'm saying is that it involves a bottle of vodka, a half a tank of gas, a lubricated zucchini, and a severe case of constipation.)
Is it a wireless mouse? I had a cheap wireless mouse a while back that would do this, it was from interference from some shit or other.
It's not wireless.
I just want to add that I managed to get my hands on a brand new mouse and it has the exact same problem when I'm using it in certain locations around the house - but works perfectly fine on the safe spot I moved my PC to. Basically just the same as my other one, so it's definitely not the mouse that's faulty.
Seriously what can be interfering with the cursor movement??

Are you using a laptop?
Did you check to make sure there is nothing on the trackpad.....

Didn't even think of this. Make sure you disable the trackpad if possible, I hate those things.
I just purchased a RAT 5 mouse and mine does the exact same thing from time to time. I have tried it on 2 desktop and one laptop computer and it does the same thing on all. I have cleaned it (though it is new), tried different pads/surfaces and also tried it at a friend's house on their computer and each time it would do this random movement. Usually it is down and right, but I have seen it move in all directions while holding it completely still.
Downloaded the current drivers, too. Strange... I am with you, man. I love the mouse, but this sucks.
Does it happen when you have music playing? When I use my CM Storm mouse on a mouse mat the vibration from my bass speaker makes the mouse twitch across the screen, but this happens only when I use a mouse mat.
It sounds like the lack of Feng Shui in the room is angering the dead japanese couple that used to live in your house.

Please follow this guide on how to correctly decorate your house with Feng Shui. This could ease the ghost's angering and calm their spirits. Have you considered buying a Ouija board to ask them to leave your computer alone? Could be worth looking into.
Here's my favourite Ouija Board. It's glow in the dark as Ouija boards tend to function best in dark areas.
