The creation of a new wave of grammar schools in England has been ditched from the government's plans.
The Queen's Speech says the government will "look at all options" for opening new schools, but that will not include removing the current ban on expanding selection.
The controversial plan to stop free lunches for all infants is also absent.
This takes away the biggest source of extra funding promised for schools in the Conservative manifesto.
The government, setting out its plans for the next two years, has not announced any legislation for education.
Hung parliament gonna hang
One manifesto promise dead already.
But I'm sure once they finish funding the NHS for 50 years with all that money saved from leaving the EU, the Tory government'll be able to direct the money firehose to schools. Wait, that sounds like a magic money tree...

Would help if they directed the money firehose towards actual firehoses for the tower blocks which are at high risk.
Still, it's a good thing that they are scrapping this one policy. Whilst we really need positive action from a government committed to fixing problems, at least the tories now can't create more.
this parliament is hung, but not like a hangman. they've got their arm AND head stuck in the noose and are just wiggling awkwardly complaining about how their hand's gone to sleep, using their good arm to awkwardly scribble over their election promises
I still can't believe people voted to scrap free school meals in order to fund grammar schools

Neither can I, that sounds like bullshit to me. Especially considering how expensive grammar schools are to run, scrapping the limited free schools lunch programme doesn't seem like it would make enough money back.
