I've started to switch to Arch from Ubuntu to basically challenge myself and have a learning curve. The initial install of Arch went perfectly fine, however GRUB has pulled something that confused me. As most of us know, Arch does not install GRUB2, so the partition count should start at 0 when labeling (hdX,Y) rather than 1. When reviewing the configuration file at the end of the installation, it looked all fine, so I rebooted and went to the next step to find that I was redirected to the GRUB rescue screen with the reason "file not found". I did a little searching with ls and found that the partition count is starting at 1 and not 0 which is odd because I know that this isn't GRUB2 (mainly because the use of the menu.lst file).
I'm curious as to what would make this happen. I do have an area of the hdd that isn't labeled and is empty in front of sda1 (we can thank Asus for that) so I'm wondering if this may have a cause to the start of the partition count being changed.
In GRUB hard drive counts start at 0, and partitions start at 1. I don't know why, that's just the way it is.
I found out the problem. Apparently GRUB2 from my previous install is still somewhere on my comp and is taking precedence over GRUB. I have no idea where it is so I can remove it. Any ideas on things I can do to find it?
I'm currently using links, which is pretty nostalgic.
Nvm, I'm an idiot. Forgot to rewrite the MBR.

I need to learn not to get ahead of myself and actually read the documentation before posting :sigh:.
