Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall, Ted Dwane, and Marcus Mumford; collectiveley known as Mumford & Sons, these four have been making noise in the UK folk scene since late 2007, along side other up-and-coming folk groups such as Noah and the Whale and folk solo artists such as
Johnny Flynn.
Releasing EPs throughout 2008 and 2009, the group finally released a full-length album titled
Sigh No More in October 2009 in the UK and February 2010 in the United States. Containing
multiple tracks from previous EPs remastered, the album moves slightly away from the rough,
unplugged sound and more to a polished modern folk sound. Sigh No More contained the
following tracks, bolded being official singles:

A refrshing surprise is that the group has been influenced by some of the finest literature the
English language has to offer. The album name Sigh No More is derived from a line in William
Shakespear's Much Ado About Nothing. The tracks Timshel and Dust Bowl Dance
are based somewhat heavily on John Steinbeck's East of Eden and Grapes of Wrath.

Marcus is very annoying. I can see why people like them but they ran out very quickly on me, and suddenly came quite annoying
My favourite song is Timshel.

Oh the emotion
I love the song 'hold onto what you believe' , but it's not on the album :(
Amazing music.
Very promising debut album, one of my favourite newer albums.
Well fuck, Tom, how about that, i showed you this band!
Good band
I love these guys so much. Definitely one of favorite bands at the moment.
I only really like The Cave.
The rest of their stuff just doesn't do it for me.
these guys do a fantastic cover of cousins by vampire weekend, which is a fantastic song in its own right

They've been holding me over until the new Fleet Foxes album comes out. But they've been growing on me, Sigh No More has been one of my favorite albums that I've picked up this year so far.
lots of people I know are obsessed but I don't understand the hype, I find their music a bit annoying.
I don't like them very much.

Every time I hear them on the radio I cringe.

I wouldn't switch the radio off if they came on.
Like I would with Ke$ha

A bit drastic no?
Cringeworthy AND you don't like it.
I hate these annoying bastards. I won one of their CD's :saddowns:
Why are they hated? I mean, for what possible reason could one dislike this?
Why are they hated? I mean, for what possible reason could one dislike this?
The people hating them are people who generally don't post in this section.
Closed-Minded folk. Just ignore them, they feel its necessary to dislike a band for no apparant reason just for their ego.

their music isnt brutal
their music isnt brutal
I want Mumford and sons to play an Anal cunt cover now
They should cover "Hitler Is A Sensitive Man"
Or maybe "I Lit Your Baby on Fire"
Or "Limp Bizkit Think They're Black But Really They're Just Gay"
Or maybe even "I Became A Counsellor So I Could Tell Rape Victims They Deserved It"
There are many, many fine choices from such a prestige and classy band
Truth, I will email Marcus Mumford about this fantastic revelation!
Was going to make a thread about them, but searched and found this one.
I love them - The first time I saw them was when they played the Grammys. I was just hypnotized by the energy they had.

It was the first time in a while, I think, that I saw a live performance where I got the distinct feeling that the band actually enjoyed being there and had fun playing music for us to hear.
I bought Sigh no More recently, and it is by far the most enjoyment I've ever gotten from an album. It's also the first time that I enjoyed every single track on an album and would listen to them all over and over again.
I hope to see them live eventually.
Sigh No More is one of my top played albums, brilliant stuff, not a single song I'd skip on that album.
Fucking love these guys, one of my favourite bands at the moment, after the storm is one of their best, but nobody ever seems to mention it :/
Quite frankly i feel like this band is trying too hard to be deep whenever i listen to them
also most of the tracks have the exact same rhythmic style
some of the songs are ok as singles but together as an album i think its a very poor, samey mess of rushing folk sounds
JUST MY 2 PENNIES
