Boston-based First Wind LLC plans to build the proposed 70-megawatt wind energy project on former sugarcane land on Oahu's North Shore, generating enough power for 14,500 homes. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported Friday that construction of the Kawailoa Wind Farm is scheduled to begin later this year, and it could begin producing power next year. The additional wind production would significantly expand the state's wind energy output, which currently consists of 112 megawatts of generating capacity on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island. North Shore Neighborhood Board member Carol Philips says the project drew little criticism from the community besides concerns about the size of wind turbines. And then a Tsunami comes and wipes it out.
...leading to a months-long crisis, eventually causing all countries to agree to stop using wind power by 2020 and move to coal

I like the URL of your source http://old.news.yahoo.com
http://old.news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110715/ap_on_bi_ge/us_hawaii_wind_farm But, but, the natural beauty! :tinfoil:
and oh yea, because a diesel burning power plant (what they have now) is VERY BEAUTIFUL
Dude, I'm not going to, like, sacrifice the awesome swells for more electricity, it's unfair brah.
Oahu is windy as fuck, I think they'll be fine.
Don't do it! It will blow the Earth off of its orbit! http://www.theonion.com/video/in-the-know-coal-lobby-warns-wind-farms-may-blow-e,20876/
I honestly think that a proper nuclear power facility is beautiful.

I don't really get why there are so many people against the use of wind farms. I live in an area of Southern Ontario where there's a good number of wind turbines scattered around. People see them as eyesores. I see them as signs of progress.

People round here are up in arms about this. Oh that and the completely fucking wasteful rail project that Abercrombie wants to force through. It's not gonna help traffic in Honolulu one bit and it's going to displace hundreds of families. they'd be better off building something like the light rail that San Jose has.
