[release] BERLIN — Germany's foreign minister is playing down the country's expectations for Afghanistan's future while reiterating that German troops will start their withdrawal by the end of next year as planned. Guido Westerwelle told parliament Thursday that after nearly a decade in Afghanistan, Germany has "more realistic expectations" for the country, saying that Berlin is no longer expecting good governance but the more achievable goal of "good-enough governance." Westerwelle says German troops will start withdrawing as planned in late 2011 and start handing over the responsibility to Afghan authorities by the middle of next year. He says the last of Germany's current 4,600 troops are to leave by 2014, saying the withdrawal must not endanger allied troops or leave the country in the hands of the Taliban.
looking for the bin man
More or less getting the Taliban out of power now.
Can anyone enlighten me to why the afghanistan war is even in effect?.
It's basically a drug megacenter for heroin.
More or less getting the Taliban out of power now.
We've pretty much done that, theres an estimated 200 Taliban left in Afghanistan. The rest are in Pakistan, fleeing through the mountains.
Can anyone enlighten me to why the afghanistan war is even in effect?.
9/11, bin Laden was hiding in Afghanistan, government wouldn't hand him over, we invaded, he got away, but then we had to oversee the establishment of a new government. Insurgents showed up, tried to bring down the new government, kept happening for years and here we are.
At least in Afghanistan NATO really is fighting for freedom. Rule under the Taliban is nearly as bad as under Big Brother.
