• PC Upgrades $600 Budget

My PC is getting a bit dated and since I have a job now I can afford to upgrade it. I am hoping to be able to play a few new games that are coming out this fall and currently my computer could probably barely handle them. I have a $600 budget, but I could afford up to $1000 if push came to shove (I would just have to wait for my next paycheck)so preferably no deals lasting shorter than 2 weeks. Current System Specs: OS: Windows XP Pro - Looking To Get Windows 7 64 Bit Processor: Intel Pentium 4 - It's shitty as hell so hoping to get i5 Sandy Bridge Quad Core Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 - Need suggestions on this one, only supports DirectX 10 and has only half a gig of memory RAM: 2.5 GB - Probably need some more, how much? I'm not the best with computers so I wouldn't know if I needed a cooling fan or new power supply etc... so if I need to post more information on my PC just ask. I don't even know if my tower could even fit new upgrades (It's a standard acer tower), the current graphics card barely fit and I had to move some wires around inside just to give you an idea of the space inside. So advice on how to proceed would be great! I would like to order my parts off Newegg.ca as well. I would also like to know if I could install all this on my own. Thanks
I think it would be a good idea to start from scratch. Are you okay with your current monitor, keyboard, speakers and mouse?
I am happy with all the external stuff. I really don't want to start from scratch because, as odd as it sounds, I don't want to have to put more money in it than I have to even though a new PC would probably be better in the long run. The reason being is that my Dad also uses this computer for business and this is the only viable outlet in the house and getting a new computer might compromise his business for a little while (Transferring documents etc...).

So you are keeping keyboard, case and monitor?
I'm planning on keeping my monitor, keyboard, and case unless of course my case is too small which I doubt.

It does not include Windows so that's another $100 on top and including tax that's almost $1100 for things I really don't need. I will have to do some investigating, but I believe that my motherboard is fine as well and I don't think I need a new power supply.

BTW, I seriously doubt that your mobo is going to be "fine" because of that Pentium 4 that is on it. That's from the old 755 socket, so any even fairly-modern CPU will not be able to fit into that motherboard. You should just wait for next paycheck and get the i5.
Yeah, thanks. I was hoping to keep the costs at a minimum, but if I have to get a new motherboard as well it's not a huge inconvenience. I'm guessing that mobo you posted would be able to support everything then? I was also wondering if the power supply would be able to fit into my tower. I have a friend that fixes computers so I'll take the list to him and see if he has any advice as well.
The motherboard I posted is socket 1155, so it would support the 2500K. As for the PSU, is should generally fit any case (standard ATX form factor).
Can you take a picture of the current case? It might not fit all of these new components.
