• Chinese Human Rights Activist arrested for asking for basic rights
Leading Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo has been jailed for 11 years for "inciting subversion of state power", after a trial condemned in the West. The trial, from which Western diplomats and journalists were barred, followed Mr Liu's co-authorship of a document last year urging political reform. Several people were apparently hurt at a Hong Kong protest over the sentence. The human rights group Amnesty International condemned the sentence, saying freedom of speech was at stake. The US also denounced the sentence. China has accused Washington and the EU of meddling in its affairs. The BBC's Michael Bristow in Beijing says the sentence shows China does not want anyone to challenge its authority.
Now, what is this Charter 8 that made China so angry? Amending the Constitution. Separation of powers. Legislative democracy. An independent judiciary. Public control of public servants. Guarantee of human rights. Election of public officials. Rural–urban equality. Freedom of association. Freedom of assembly. Freedom of expression. Freedom of religion. Civic education. Protection of private property. Financial and tax reform. Social security. Protection of the environment. A federated republic. Truth in reconciliation. Seems familiar? These shit are practically in almost every non-totalitarian government. Isn't it awesome we take our rights for granted?
Irony, thy name is Liu Xiaobo
Irony, thy name is Liu Xiaobo
What?
Yeah, China is a Totalitarian Communist State. But they make a lot of our cheap shit. :patriot:
Yeah, China is a Totalitarian Communist State. But they make a lot of our cheap shit. :patriot:
you can't really call them communist either nowadays... (NK really is communist, china not really anymore... much like vietnam which isn't really communist at all anymore but still claims it is)
The Chinese Governement can't keep arresting people or running them over with tanks...
What?
He wanted basic civil rights, freedom and basically a country where the government can't just do as they please. So they throw him in jail.
He wanted basic civil rights, freedom and basically a country where the government can't just do as they please. So they throw him in jail.
so are you going to answer him properly or at least read properly this time?
Looks like he... Got banned IRL
Some of those don't really sound like basic rights. Financial and tax reform. Social security. Protection of the environment. A federated republic. are basic rights? Really? Well fuck me gently with a chainsaw.
I know, tell the US government that they should pressure the Chinese government to give decent wages and shit to workers. Well, it would quadruple the price of crap in the states, but who wouldn't be willing to be unselfish :downs:
He knew what he was getting into and got what he had coming. Calling for an end to one-party rule would be considered inciting subversion of state power.
Looks like he... Got banned IRL
Every time I see one of your posts it's a complete trainwreck of a bad pun I don't think I have ever seen you make a half decent one
you can't really call them communist either nowadays... (NK really is authoritarian, much like vietnam which never was communist but claims it is)
Fixed
Oh China, what will you do next?
so are you going to answer him properly or at least read properly this time?
Mind explaining what is wrong with what I said?
Fixed
Nicely edited, Hawkeye.
The Chinese government doesn't like human rights activisits? Fuckin hell I can't believe this!
I absolutely despise the Chinese government. On a side note: Source?

shouldn't be, "are you feering rucky?"
I absolutely despise the Chinese government. On a side note: Source?
Do you really need a source to believe that the Chinese government put a human rights activist in jail? [editline]08:17PM[/editline] Oh and this is exactly why I will never visit a country more authoritarian than most of the Western world.
I know, tell the US government that they should pressure the Chinese government to give decent wages and shit to workers. Well, it would quadruple the price of crap in the states, but who wouldn't be willing to be unselfish :downs:
The US simply want them to give out basic human rights. I don't think they care about China's industry that much - apart from the fact that it's vital to their own.
China isn't a little tiny country that the big tough US can just threaten into doing what they want.
That's why other nations should step in too and help try to stop the ridiculous kind of crap that goes on in China.
That's why other nations should step in too and help try to stop the ridiculous kind of crap that goes on in China.
China's the kind of country that won't put up with other countries shit, they'll just tell you to fuck off.
That's why other nations should step in too and help try to stop the ridiculous kind of crap that goes on in China.
If we really wanted to stop it we'd stop supporting their enormous economy by relying completely on their cheap plastic shite. But we don't wanna do that. What's a billion peoples rights if it means we can't buy popcorn in plastic buckets?
How utterly terrible.
Yeah, China is a Totalitarian Communist State. But they make a lot of our cheap shit. :patriot:
China isn't even close to communist. They're about as capitalist as possible.
It's not our job to tell other countries what to do. If the Chinese people are upset, they can overthrow their government. We don't need to do the same thing we did to Iraq, the people of China may not even like the form of government we give them. And don't use the one guy in the OP as a way of saying that every Chinese person is like that. Let them create the government THEY WANT; don't try to give them something WE WANT.
