Vista constantly giving updates and IE won't work.

About 24 hours ago, Vista told me that it had to update (that shutdown icon with the little update shield on the start menu) so I did. when it reboots it tells me it has to install service pack 1. I thought it was a little weird because I thought SP1 was a bit old, but I just shrugged it off and let it update. Ever since then, my wallpaper changed to one i used LONG ago, my monitor positioning changed to about 2 inches to the left (I fixed that by factory rebooting the positioning of the monitor.) and my steam favorites decreased by about 10. Also it has told me i needed an update about 4-6 times since the first one.
The things I've tried to fix it was to install SP2 but it told me I had to install SP1 :/ so I do that and it says it was unable to install SP1.
If anyone knows how to fix it, that would be wonderful. Thanks in advance.
There are viruses that simulate windows updating, and that sounds like what happened to you.
Stop using IE, you will get quite alot less viruses.
Also, what is your AV?

I'm using Firefox right now and AV? I assume that means antivirus and I use the free 3 year trial of mcafee that came with my computer which was probably only about a year ago
MCafee is rubbish if you even want protection.
Free ones, that are better than Mcaffe:

or

A good paid one with a cool dude on the main page:

Spyware protection (free):

Avast! also has a little anti-spyware built in.

Well I got Avast, it scanned before it even got into windows, found two trojans and deleted it. I get into my account and the problem still persists. Does anyone have any other ideas?
also get spybot s&D, it might be spyware as well?

its not very good compared to Spybot in my opinion.
Yeah, it only does a little anti-spyware, since its main objective is to find and remove viruses.
