(Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry called on Sunday for a renewed commitment to achieving Middle East peace, saying a lasting deal between Israel, the Palestinians and all their neighbors could be achieved. But prospects for a renewed peace process appeared dim as Kerry offered no specifics on how to restart negotiations in his speech to a Gaza reconstruction conference in Cairo. The last round of U.S.-brokered peace talks, presided over by Kerry, foundered in April over Israeli objections to a Palestinian political unity pact including the Islamist Hamas movement and Palestinian opposition to unremitting Israeli settlement expansion.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/10/12/us-gaza-egypt-conference-sisi-idUSKCN0I108A20141012
But prospects for a renewed peace process appeared dim as Kerry offered no specifics on how to restart negotiations
Talk is cheap, Kerry, and throwing money at it won't change anything. Come up with a plan.
The Palestinian Gov. primarily consists of Hamas extremists atm. Something tells me that trying to make peace talks with a bunch of religious lunatics won't exactly be effective. There are ways to end the conflict-- but there are certainly ways not to, and I doubt this'll do much.

That's more money than you'll see in your life. Money that can rebuild schools, hospitals, roads, and put public services in place. Stop complaining.
That's more money than you'll see in your life. Money that can rebuild schools, hospitals, roads, and put public services in place. Stop complaining.
It can, but will it? [editline]12th October 2014[/editline] And what's it matter if it does build all that, just to be wrecked in the next eruption of conflict?
It's either going to be used to build shit to blow up Israeli's, or build shit to be blown up by Israeli's.
So pretty much Kerry is giving Hamas 212 mill to build new tunnels and line Khaled Mashal's pockets.
So pretty much Kerry is giving Hamas 212 mill to build new tunnels and line Khaled Mashal's pockets.
It's like building a sandcastle when the tide is rising. Except with taxpayer money.
That's more money than you'll see in your life. Money that can rebuild schools, hospitals, roads, and put public services in place. Stop complaining.
The problem is that Gaza has gotten aid before, and we learned that if you just throw money at them they're just going to build rockets and tunnels to throw at Israel. Which only makes the situation worse.
It's either going to be used to build shit to blow up Israeli's, or build shit to be blown up by Israeli's.
It ends up being both if you think about it.

The solution is to cut all support to Israel, that will end the conflict without a doubt.
You're right. The solution is to cut all support to Israel, that will end the conflict without a doubt.
Yeah, I see no bad repercussions if we do that, it's not like Israel spends tons of money on US arms and is our only guaranteed ally in the Middle east.
Talk is cheap, Kerry, and throwing money at it won't change anything. Come up with a plan.
I have one. Recognize them as a country. Costs nothing and sets international laws into motion. But that would be real action, wouldn't it.
Can find alot better use for 212 million to be used in the actual country its coming from nevermind throwing it to another country where it's going to do fuck all, seriously what is wrong with these people.
Yeah, I see no bad repercussions if we do that, it's not like Israel spends tons of money on US arms and is our only guaranteed ally in the Middle east.
Israel is a fucking terrible ally and even if they weren't, is the money you're getting from arms really worth it knowing what they're doing with them
It's like building a sandcastle when the tide is rising. Except with taxpayer money.
Taxpayer's money? Is everything a politician (funded by supporters) does with his money (or the money of rich benefactors visiting his conference that raised the money) taxpayer's? [editline]12th October 2014[/editline] you fit the stereotype of a buzzword slinging conservative
How about stop giving Israel weapons.. I'm sure that will benefit the region more than a one-off lot sum.
That's more money than you'll see in your life. Money that can rebuild schools, hospitals, roads, and put public services in place. Stop complaining.
What does it matter, israels gonna keep bombing them.

We'll use this money to rebuild all the things Israel blew up. Because otherwise they'll have nothing to blow up anymore and having war photographers taking pictures of a horizon stretching landscape of smoking craters and bodies doesn't look as good.
The best way to combat religious extremism is to educate people. Don't know how they'd go about doing this exactly but that's really the only way this will end.
