• What is a good recomendation on a SSD?

I've been wanting to get an SSD for my computer for a while now. I have a 640gb drive that I'll use for data and such but I'd love to be able to install the OS and steam/games on a 120gb or so SSD. I love the idea of no load times. I've been looking on Newegg for decent ones and this one was in the top rated. Although I don't want to go for a cheap one because when I've heard that they can have issues if you go too cheap.
Personally i'd go with the Corsair Force 3 GT.
Avoid Sandforce (reliability and performance on incompressible data) and get anything by Crucial, Intel or Samsung
I've heard good things about Crucial.
Crucial M4 or Samsung 830. Stay away from anything Sandforce, it's a mixed bag reliability wise. You might get lucky like I did, or get a Vertex 3 that dies on day 1.
Avoid Sandforce (reliability and performance on incompressible data) and get anything by Crucial, Intel or Samsung
Wait, a year ago everybody said the OCZ Vertex 2E (uses sandforce) was the best and now you're saying avoid sandforce? :s What did I miss. I have one of those by the way and there's nothing wrong with it as far as I can tell.
...or get a Vertex 3 that dies on day 1.
Really? I was actually considering in buying one 256gb eventually.
Corsair served me really well.
Here is my drives stats:
My Vertex 2 has been on for 4465 hours, slightly longer than yours and still works well, but Newegg is full of people saying theirs died after a few months.
Thank you for the info about sandforce. Do you gentlemen think its worth getting a larger one than 64GB if I plan on installing steam and some games on it? I don't think I have that many games that I'd NEED installed on it at once but it'd be lovely to have Skyrim and a few other games installed on the SSD.

Crucial M4. I got one and it's fucking awesome, no issues so far.

This is what I'm planning on getting, 64GB should be enough to have the OS and some choice programs. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220581 Seems like a good brand, pretty good reviews, only $70 with MIR.

I'll pick up that crucial M4 then!
Here is my drives stats:
what program is this
what program is this
Defraggler
omg I have 8289 power on hours on my Agility 2 [editline]8th January 2012[/editline] my storage drive has 27000 hours wow
I want to get 4 sdd's in raid. recommendations?
this. double the speeds, 10x the reliability
Double the speeds? No. The M4 is only slightly faster real world wise. Reliability, I'm not sure. I know that Patriot just rebadges disks it buys from someone else, although I don't know who. Could Be SanDisk or Intel.
About the M4
We are aware of an issue that is currently affecting a small number of users whereby their m4 causes their system to require a restart. This issue occurs after approximately 5,000 hours of actual “on time” use. Following the initial reboot, the system then requires subsequent restarts after each additional hour of use. However, the data on the SSD is unaffected and will not be lost due to this condition.
However, they're releasing a firmware update to fix that.
We are currently targeting the week of January 16th, 2012 to publicly release the new firmware update.

Here is my drives stats:
Make sure you defrag every day! [sp]In case anyone takes this seriously, never defrag an SSD![/sp]
I'm running on an Agility 3, and I've had no problems so far. I bought it because it was a fair bit cheaper than the M4, but I'm not sure whether that's the case in the U.S.
Would I see any noticeable improvement in day-to-day usage if I upgrade from a WD Caviar to a Samsung 830? [editline]8th January 2012[/editline] oh god my main drive has 38,808 power-on hours (4.5 power-on years). I should probably buy a new drive

I should probably buy a new drive
I just installed Win7 on my SSD, and while my F3 is a nice drive and all, the speed is simply incomparable. I've had to do some workarounds concerning Steam and such, but if you get a large capacity one, you shouldn't be too bothered with such.
I'm using an Agility 3 and the quick response when you want to open some random file is great. Makes MBAM scan a hell of a lot faster too which is nice
