500$ PC, No Graphics Card, No Monitor, Final Destination.

Hey, I need a 500$ PC build for my friend. He plays WoW. A lot, but I'm trying to get him into PC gaming. He already has a 9600GT, so that should be fine for a while. This is in the USA, New Jersey specifically. Thanks.
A 9600GT is kind of out dated and you could probably get a 4850 in that budget.
There's one on newegg (1gb one) for 85$
4850 isn't a hefty enough upgrade to warrant it IMO.
a 4870 then.
He only plays WoW... and he's gonna get a GPU after the PC. At the moment were thinking a phenom, 4gd ddr3 1600 MHz ram, 450w corsair psu. Not sure about the kobo and such though.
Isn't a 9600gt enough to max out WoW? Its graphics are rather simple.
4GB RAM, a Phenom? This is all a waste of money for playing WoW. What are his other specs aside from the 9600GT? Chances are he is already getting the most he is going to get (visually) out of WoW, in which case I would suggest playing a more visually impressive game rather than futilely trying to improve upon something doomed to ugliness.
Well I'm also trying to get him into other PC games. I just think getting a good upgradeable build would be the best for now...
Current specs he has?
a P4, 1gb RAM, some 250gb HDD and a 9600GT.
I'll try it.

$467 before anything
Also, OP you can lower your udget to ~$400 and still get a decent setup that can run WOW and most games. In this build I tried to max out your budget.

You are missing a GPU.
He has one
You're missing a brain
I should mention he already has Windows 7 from his old PC.

Does he have the disc though? Oh wait. Is his current hard drive SATA? If it is, stick it into the new build.

Also, your friend just wants to run WOW on max settings right?
Depends if his old computer is a prebuilt. If it is then the OS will reject the new motherboard, because its OEM.

He got Win7 from his parent's work place.

Run two or more WoWs, and also play recent games. Just get the best, and most upgradeable build for 500$ or so.

Get 2GB RAM. WoW won't use 4GB.
