I may be going to Sweden for College

Hey Facepunch. I come from a poor family and I've been considering going to Sweden for higher education.

A little background story. I was raised by a single parent. My mother managed to save 20k (Canadian) for my higher education as well as a program that will give me $400 a month during my tuition. Anyway 20k won't get me far in Canadian universities and I'm not that big on taking loans. So I've decided to go to another country for higher education (Sweden!).

This sounds like a cliche because of the other threads out there but is there anything I should know about going to a new country? If anyone would like to know I'm going in a few weeks to hopefully get my citizen status by next year. I will be working until I can go to one of the various English universities in Sweden.

Before anyone says anything about 20k being little. Its alot considering my mother was a single parent and I love her lots for saving that for me.

For some reason, about 40% of my internet friends are swedish, ~30% are american, ~15% are from the UK and the other 15% are from northern and eastern europe. I'm not even swedish, so strange.

Just learn the basics of Swedish and get some friends, you'll do fine.

Although I'm not completely sure, finding a place to live at the moment is tough, there's a rather big queue for student apartments. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Piss hard to find a job, but the goverment gives you cash for doing nothing.
But a job is prefered.

Where are you going to college? if you're going game design and 3d development, you might end up where I live.

Alot more easier finding jobs (student jobs) in the northern part of Sweden, Umeå for example.
Umeå has shitloads of exchange students aswell.
