• FL Studio with a Keyboard?

Is FL Studio meant to be used with like, a USB piano keyboard? I'm just dipping my feet into this kind of world so pardon for the extreme lack of knowledge. I play piano and was wondering if this is what you needed.
It's not required, but it is indeed possible. The only real problem would be the rather high latency, a sound-card integrated in your motherboard would probably not do the trick in terms of latency. I've heard Creative X-(something) is a pretty decent sound-card, and I've had good experiences with external sound-cards using FireWire.
It's recommended. It's a lot easier to come up with parts to a song with an actual instrument to play on rather than trying to stick random notes in the piano roll. The keyboard also can work as a piano, but not quite as good.
get a keyboard if you feel you would benefit from it [editline]08:45PM[/editline] also the proper term you are looking for is midi keyboard

For people who don't know, ASIO is a driver model designed for audio streaming and has no uneeded overhead built into it, most higher end sound cards and sound interfaces designed specicially made for production have ASIO drivers made by the manfucaturer, almost no onboard cards have an ASIO driver, this is where ASIO4ALL comes in, it's a unioversal ASIO driver (Or more accuratly a complete hack, but an excellent one at that) What you are looking for is commonly referred to as a "Master keyboard", the more universal term would be "MIDI keyboard" or "MIDI Master keyboard" but this implies a physical 5 pin DIN MIDI connection, which you aren't looking for because you likely don't have a MIDI port. Having one is certainly of great help, makes inputting your ideas much quicker, and if you get one wich parameter knobs and sliders you can do automation writing to create some cool effects. I wouldn't get anything less than 49 keys, as you will find it restricive. My personal recommendation would be the "CME M-Key" because it is very small for a 49 keyer while still having full size keys(Tiny Bezel) - http://www.thomann.de/gb/cme_mkey.htm Actually, Do you own an electronic keyboard already? - If so, what model? If it has a MIDI output you can use your current keyboard as a control keyboard using a cable such as this: http://www.thomann.de/gb/cme_u2midi.htm Perdon the extreme amount of typos, I am typing in the dark here!
I use FL to play my MIDI keyboard. I have to use ASIO4ALL as sound driver though, otherwise there's a lot of latency.
Really, 49 keys? A lot of big songs I play require all of the piano for me :v
