Love this approach. I think the chaos in the forums and such are a sort of culture shock from folks that are used to playing-to-win but there isn't any win conditions defined so they bring in concepts from other games or just make up their own goals. Willing to bet this fixes itself once folks get used to it and there is more in the game to explore. I also like how the development itself seems to be a part of the game. From the drama of the recent exploits to folks constantly commenting on hackers and features (or lack of them). Even folks that "aren't interested" have an opinion about it. I haven't played it yet and am completely hooked on the videos and forum. Up's and downs of players. Problem and solution on the support side. Even the discussions on hardware compatibility have their moments. Pretty sure the idea men behind this game didn't plan on it being entertaining in that way. It's like a reality show in a way. Some folks are behaving in a base and benal manner, while others are demonstrating their ability to transcend it. The only way to top it is to actually go outside and talk to a stranger, imo.
If rust ends up being similar to gmod: survival in any way it'll turn out pretty well IMO.
i've not played rust so i don't know anything about the gameplay, but if they added these features and the game sort of became a "build a community" game, what chance would lone-wolf types have?

Lone wolfing is not an ideal or smart approach to surviving, it's a possible way to survive, but not a logical. So the idea here is not to discourage lone wolfing but instead to encourage grouping up.
