I'm a Weenie Who Doesn't Know Jack Shit About Hookah - General

So my friends have gotten into hookah. I've got my own reasons for not smoking tobacco, but I figured I might as well do some research on it so I could make a fair, educated decision. Searching "Is hookah bad for you?" on Google usually garners these results: [i]-"Hookah and hookah pens are TEN TIMES WORSE THAN CIGARETTES."- anti-smoking spokesperson -"Hookah and hookah pens are HARMLESS. We will tell you this and nothing more."- something that looks like it could be a credible source[/i] I can't get a straight answer anywhere. My friends tell me it's molasses and water. Hookah fansites say it's tobacco. Cancer-awareness sites say it's the same tobacco they put in cigarettes, arsenic and all. Some say it's harmless water vapor. Some say it causes just as much cancer as cigarettes. It's quite the conundrum. So, help this whitebread square loser out; what is hookah, what are hookah pens, and are there any negative side-effects (pretty much cancer, but anything else would be swell too)? Would a guy who vowed never to touch cigarettes after losing multiple family members to cancer and emphysema be able to smoke a hookah pen and not need to feel guilty afterwards?

Hookah is a smoking device that uses shisha (also called [URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mu%E2%80%98assel"]Mu'assel[/URL]). Shisha is a mix of tobacco, molasses, and vegetable glycerol. Since you don't really inhale hookah smoke, it's safer for you than cigarettes. Hookah pens don't use tobacco, or in some cases nicotine, at all. Hookah pens are actually just [URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_cigarette"]electronic cigarettes[/URL], but usually without nicotine. They generally have a mix of [URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propylene_glycol"]propylene glycol[/URL] and [URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycerin"]vegetable glycerin[/URL]. The effects of e-cigs haven't really been studied much, so it's not really known what it can cause, but it is much safer than every other type of tobacco out there. Any other questions?

So a hookah pen with no nicotine is more or less harmless? As in, it won't lead to a raspy voice or hacking up shit or anything like that?

Yeah pretty much. Nicotine isn't really all that bad either, it's problem is that it's really addictive. Eh hookah's kind of lame. It's really just a tobacco bong. An enormous cigarette that leaves you wanting a cigarette, and at the end of the sesh you just feel kind of sickly. It can be fun, but it gets old pretty quickly. I can respect nicotine pens, but are they fun at all? Also have any of you guys tried nasal tobacco? I really enjoy it

I've got an e-cig and I fucking love it. It takes a bit of trial an error to figure out what kind of liquid flavor and mixture you like, but its totally worth it once you find the right one. Starter kits go for about 20-30 usd for the device and charger. Bottles of liquid run 5 usd+. I used to smoke close to a pack a day, and this thing has cut costs for me dramatically.

To clarify, hookah pens, the only negative side-effect is nicotine addiction, and that's just if you get them with nicotine in em, yes? There's none of that horrifying "lungs turning black, coughing up lumps of vaseline while getting cancer" shit, right? I mean short and long term.

Its water and food grade vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol so no tar, etc.

My artemas tank is taking a mad beating, i drop it so much the plastic is starting to break. It's also really hard to get the right cartos online, fucking madvapes has one where the picture matches mine perfectly and they sent me regular DCT tank cartos. And they won't replace them :/

Its just much less harsh so you don't notice . You inhale tons of smoke compared to a cigarette. But its much less addictive

Hookah pens cause nothing other than a nicotine addiction, but I've had a ehookah for around 4 months now with liquid that has around 20 mgs of nicotine per bottle and I never feel like I need to use it or an addiction. Plus it's pretty fun for tricks

[/QUOTE] The main thing I like about both is the nearly endless amount of flavours to choose from. I figured that was kinda the point? I know regular cigarettes and cigars come in a lot of flavours too but the differences with those don't seem as pronounced. Like they all have that primary taste of tobacco, kind of like how most hard liquors have that primary taste of being punched in the face. With hookah and electric pens I've always felt that the flavour you read on the label comes through a lot stronger and the tobacco taste is more in the background. I've never been a habitual smoker or anything though, just dabbled in things friends have offered me. I don't own an ecig or hookah or anything and I don't buy cigarettes.

Hookahs give you an awesome nicotine buzz, but they usually result in giant headaches and nausea for me.

I could've swore I read somewhere that the smoke inhaled from the coal that you burn the shisha with contains a lot of carbon monoxide. Also burning anything and inhaling the smoke from it surely can't be good for you. Burning anything releases carcinogens. That being said, I used to have a hookah that I smoked almost every day. But I highly doubt it's harmless.

I got a Fantasia Hookah Pen (no tar, no nicotine). I quite like it so far, but I've a question. If the light is red, does that mean anything? Or is it usually red? I haven't even had it a full day, I doubt it's running out already, so I just wanna be sure it's not malfunctioning or anything. -UPDATE- It appears that's just the light that turns on when you inhale, all is well.

I inhale hookah. Obviously any burning matter entering your lungs is bad for you, although I would say it's safer than cigarettes because of the less additives. Hookah isn't something you do to get a buzz (not my friends at least.) It's more of a social thing. It's just fun to sit around and shoot the shit while smoking hookah (and maybe some bud.)
