Why dont you put a lcd screen in it? What frontend are you going to use? I would recommend Hyperspin, it can be a bitch to set up but once its done its glorious!
Why dont you put a lcd screen in it?
This is almost as bad as using an X-Arcade for your control panel, but is more accepted due to the scarcity of (good) CRT monitors. When OP gets back from his ban, do you have a particular theme for it? Cabarets never really go wrong.
lcd's are fine for arcade cabinets if you don't care about losing out on the whole nostalgia factor because let's get over it, lcd panels are a ton less work than CRT [editline]22nd August 2013[/editline] if you find a nice trinitron you should chuck it in though
My current monitor is one of those infamous dell units. Weighs a million pounds, but they're very sharp. Always good as a backup incase an LCD failed, which it did in this case.

crt monitors are..scarce? where do you live?
crt monitors are..scarce? where do you live?
sweden pawn shops have stopped accepting them, and almost nobody sells them anymore, the size above was the best i could get
that must suck. have you checked charity shops? [editline]24th August 2013[/editline] or any electronics dumps. they often sell some stuff if you ask about it
that must suck. have you checked charity shops? [editline]24th August 2013[/editline] or any electronics dumps. they often sell some stuff if you ask about it
yep it's illegal to browse their stuff, and they don't sell anything
yep it's illegal to browse their stuff, and they don't sell anything
Could ask if they'll let you put up a sign saying you'll buy CRT's and your number.
If you want to pay for shipping I can send you a pretty large CRT computer monitor for nothing
A modded original xbox is AWESOME for these. Just putting that out there.
Could ask if they'll let you put up a sign saying you'll buy CRT's and your number.
costs money, not really fond of that idea
If you want to pay for shipping I can send you a pretty large CRT computer monitor for nothing
isn't that ridiculously expensive?
A modded original xbox is AWESOME for these. Just putting that out there.
i want to be able to play recent games though, and the old xbox gets extremely hot too
i want to be able to play recent games though, and the old xbox gets extremely hot too
How recent? What particular games are you going to put on it? Going for a Neo Geo style control panel to go along with that presumably horizontal screen? And I'll even throw some links your way to help you along the way (just for the freak chance you didn't know, hope you've done your research). http://www.reddit.com/r/cade/ - A lot of it's showing off cabinets, but there's still the question about building them. [del]http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php - Everything you need.[/del] http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,133634.0.html - Oh you sneaky sneaky. Found your build! http://www.wickedretarded.com/~crapmame/ - When designing it, please avoid these tropes. ... You say a black w/ red corner cabinet, but you're using purple and green controls? Seriously? >2K12 never got far enough to actual building so this is where I can't help.

tried out some paint, didn't look too good. gotta put some putty on there
tried out some paint, didn't look too good. gotta put some putty on there
That doesn't look like MDF, more like particle board, which will suck up latex paint then fall apart. What are you using for materials here? MDF doesn't paint well either, but is great if you want to wqrap it with carpet. Bondo, and a knife, and then paint - it will look just fine, and just build a rectangle frame from 2x4 to support the center section where the monitor and controls go.
It said mdf mdf only
I was just wondering because the unpainted end in the picture I referenced looks odd for mdf. Either way, mdf is a pain to paint.
Well, I do have a 14'' CRT TV on the loft which isn't used at all.
seems like we didn't get mdf after all, oh well. getting some for the control panel then
Well, I do have a 14'' CRT TV on the loft which isn't used at all.
that's tiny dude
seems like we didn't get mdf after all, oh well. getting some for the control panel then that's tiny dude
And what is the size that you need?
And what is the size that you need?
24-26"

Odds are, if you saw two sheets that were similar, but one was about $15, and the other was $30, and you chose the $15, you got particle junk. Not really sure what its good for except to protect other pieces of wood when shipping. I would not get too heavy hearted into building out of that stuff - it will chunk apart and collapse. But if you press on with what you got, I'd recommend you water-proof the piss out of it. If it comes in contact with water it likes to turn into cardboard almost. Good luck mate.
If you have a small off cut kicking around, spill some water on it. For science.
I give the man props on assembling it though. I could never get a nail into it without the stuff exploding.
I give the man props on assembling it though. I could never get a nail into it without the stuff exploding.
no problems really? you could screw it in too far but that wasn't really a problem
If you have a small off cut kicking around, spill some water on it. For science.
nothing happened, i let it sit there over night and now it's gone
