Nobody cares, sorry to put it so harshly but I'm fairly sure I speak for the majority. I-Books sucked anyways, Kindle is the way to go if you're going to read something on the go.
Too bad reading on the iPad sucks.
Man between Amazon and Apple it's a terrible time to work for Barnes and Noble.
I just read books
I just read books
all these e-readers are pathetic compared to the real thing.
Just use kindles instead of the Ipads, cheaper and better when it comes to reading on them. Most school districts couldn't afford afford an amount of Ipads large enough to actually make it worth it.
all these e-readers are pathetic compared to the real thing.
It's like reading a calculator. Who in their right mind finds that fun.
Books are heavy, take up lots of space and are easy to damage. I prefer digital.
Books are heavy.
How exactly is it the books' fault that you're a weed?
Oh yes, I'm sure people will be very willing to pay through the nose for even MORE textbooks, especially ones they won't even be able to use in class.
The textbooks are all $15 or less and they already have all the major publishers signed out so I don't get what the problem is.
all these e-readers are pathetic compared to the real thing.
Disregard textbooks/reference books here. Only novels.
How exactly is it the books' fault that you're a weed?
Got 3 ~1000 page hardcover textbooks in my bag everyday. I'm gonna be fucking ripped by the end of the year.
It's like reading a calculator. Who in their right mind finds that fun.
It's really not. I actually find it easier to read sometimes. It's great having all these things at your fingertips, being able to change font size, and just grabbing ones if you have internet on it. I love my kindle.
If you have issues reading small text, try glasses. :-) But there is no reading experience better than a soft light and a book.
You've clearly never used a kindle. I was a book die hard, but after trying my dads kindle, the only thing putting me off is having to rebuy my current books to own them digitally. I have something like 200 in my room atm.
i hope this makes more textbooks available as ebooks. i bought a kindle for school and less than half of my books were available in e-form, and of those the cost of buying or renting it is hardly worth the difference. it's ridiculous to charge more than $20 for a digital copy of a textbook that expires after a few months. you can't sell it back so any difference in price is instantly lost.
having to rebuy my current books to own them digitally
You'd think they'd be a lot cheaper than a physical item, but they're not.
If you have issues reading small text, try glasses. :-) But there is no reading experience better than a soft light and a book.
Reading from a kindle feels basically the same as reading from paper. Books are awkward to hold and take up a shit ton of room when you have a lot of them. I would love to see you carry your whole book collection in your pocket. [editline]19th January 2012[/editline]
You'd think they'd be a lot cheaper than a physical item, but they're not.
In a lot of cases, they are.
It's easier to read my tablet than a book in bed, easier to handle, no folds.
This is my last point, then I promise I'll leave this. If someone were to analyse certain parts of a book, it is so much easier to flick through a book than the bore of scanning through with an ereader.
You'd think they'd be a lot cheaper than a physical item, but they're not.
From what I've seen they usually are, especially for new titles. A Dance With Dragons was $35.00 for a new hardback and only $14.99 as an ebook. Ebooks are usually a few buck cheaper than even mass market paperbacks. Also it sounds like you would like this book: Solitary Vice Against Reading It deals with all the sort of tangential aspects of why we all like reading and books.
It's easier to read my tablet than a book in bed, easier to handle, no folds.
Fuck, reading a book in bed is such a pain, I hate having to roll over to switch between the two pages when I'm trying to stay under the covers.
I would love to see you carry your whole book collection in your pocket.
I don't plan on reading 300 different books at any time, but that's just me. Popular annotations show up while you're reading the book on kindle's which, to me, is great as it shows what other people have been thinking about when reading the book.

Hell of a lot easier than flicking through pages.
Well this awesome, I already have an iPad, now I can actually use it legit for some school stuff.
I don't plan on reading 300 different books at any time, but that's just me.
Neither do I but even just carrying 3 or 4 books can be a pain if you don't carry a bag around with you.
I guarantee I can obtain a book, maybe not too new, for cheaper than the ebook.
Older books are normally around the same price but there is also a pretty huge selection of classics which are completely free for ebook readers.
ebooks are indeed smaller, lighter and probably cheaper than regular books. but reading off a screen is just too uncomfortable, in my opinion.
