• Can my PSU handle a hd 4850

My friend just gave me a hd 4850 512mb, my pc i put together right now has a 450w generic brand psu I bought from some electronics store, an i7 860, a 1tb hd and 4gb of ram

Then it should work. My 7770 needed 500W, and I'm using a 500W PSU. It works without a hitch.
You shouldn't give advice DustySheep if you aren't thorough. OP, while the PSU very easily might be shit, it might (and quite possibly will) run a 4850 - could you check how many PCI-E 6-pin connectors it has? Looks like this: [url]http://www.playtool.com/pages/veryold/pcie6index.jpg[/url] Or alternatively like this: [url]http://techreport.com/r.x/psus-0907/pcie-connectors.jpg[/url] If you haven't got any of those, I wouldn't put my Money on that it would Work with an adapter.
the 4850 used 150w i think... its been a while. and the i7 uses 95-125w im guessing itl be fine but not long term. the cadrd uses 150w maxed out not in idle neither does the rest of the rig :)
It uses between 75 watts and 150, not 150. If that is a generic brand PSU, then i doubt it can power it without either popping or sounding very angry.
