Ubisoft tells gamers to stop ‘bitching’ about lack of I Am Alive for PC
Are you a PC gamer who’s excited to get your hands on the upcoming survival action game I Am Alive? Oh, well I’m sorry but Ubisoft just doesn’t think you’re that interested in buying it…and you can thank ‘Piracy’ for that.
Speaking to IncGamers, creative director Stanislas Mettra stated that there are currently no plans to bring the game to PC because of fears that only Pirates will steal the game, and the last thing he wants to hear is any of your incessant ‘bitching’ over the issue.
“We’ve heard loud and clear that PC gamers are bitching about there being no version for them…But are these people just making noise just because there’s no version or because it’s a game they actually want to play? Would they buy it if we made it?”
Though on one hand it’s a breath of fresh air to hear a developer not blame used game sales for once, I simply cannot accept that piracy is so bad that developers are now in the mood to just abandon the platform altogether. In fact, just thinking about how much money I’ll probably be spending on the upcoming Steam Autmn sale leads me to believe that Mr. Mettra is probably talking out of his ass on this one. Especially when he lays out this gem.
“It’s hard because there’s so much piracy and so few people are paying for PC games that we have to precisely weigh it up against the cost of making it,” he said. “Perhaps it will only take 12 guys three months to port the game to PC, it’s not a massive cost but it’s still a cost. If only 50,000 people buy the game then it’s not worth it.”
I would like to put that “so few people are paying for PC games” next to the Steam Autumn sales numbers if they are ever released. I bet that even Blizzard would like to weigh in on this one.
If Ubisoft Shanghai simply doesn’t have the resources to make a proper PC port then fine, but man-up and state that. Say that ‘it’s not in the cards right now’ or, if you feel the need to dangle a carrot out there, say that a PC port is probably dependant on sales numbers for the console versions. But to simply abandon the platform under false pretenses, and then tell disappointed gamers that they are ‘bitching’ for not being able to buy your product is just dishonest cowardice, plain and simple.
Maybe if Mr.Mettra did a little less ‘bitching’ of his own he could find a way to bring his product to the people who wanted it. Of course, sometimes it’s just easier to blame the boogeyman.
Well their DRM failed every time so they have gone about throwing themselves on the floor like a baby. Ubisoft really have no idea how to deal with something that isn't even a problem to begin with.
My bro works for Ubisoft, I'll complain to him :D
What the fuck, Ubisoft?
If anything, Ubisoft should stop bitching about piracy. But nope, they don't want their customers to be happy.
Oh wow, Ubisoft, bravo..no, really, BRAVO! You have proven you are complete idiots once more!
Ubisoft is pathetic.
Most of their games aren't even good, and they force-feed you the most poorly designed DRM of all time.
They can eat a dick, and if I were the kind to pirate games (Which I'm not.), I would just to spite them, not out of any desire to actually play their shit.
Fuck off Ubisoft.
To me, it seems like they're the ones bitching about piracy, if people like your game they'll buy it, it just seems like ubisoft is acting like this skeleton here

Wow... just wow.
I hope no one tells them that piracy on consoles is sorta big; otherwise they might not make games any more.
Never buying an Ubisoft game ever again now.
Thing is... They probably lost just as many sales as they would lose from pirating just because of this.
they're not developing for pc because of piracy
ubisoft is complaining about piracy
wat
I really don't understand the math. If it takes 12 people 3 months to port the game. With the game being priced at 20 dollars or so. Since the guy said that maybe 50,000 people will buy it, that's still like a million dollars. Probably an eight hundred thousand dollar profit. I fail to see how that's not a good investment.

They don't realize that people pirate their games when they're on PC due to their amazingly bad DRM.
Sensationalist headlines!
It wasn't Ubisoft that said this. That would be a PR disaster. It was the developer of the game. After all these years, how have some of you not realized the distinction between publisher and developer?
I wont buy a new game from em, no really, like 100% serious. Even if they release a upcoming sequel to 3d Rayman.
They cant just do this and expect people to just continue paying out.
Damn it Ubisoft. I want to buy Anno 2070, but you are making this hard for me.
Thing is... They probably lost just as many sales as they would lose from pirating just because of this.
They've lost more. You don't lose sales to piracy, for one thing, because either A. they're pirating it as a demo and will buy it if they decide they like it or B. they wouldn't have bought it anyway. Secondly, I'm assuming SOMEONE would buy the pc version of their game if they released it, which they haven't, effectively meaning they've chosen to sell 0 copies instead of having a few people download it.
Given that Ubisoft has the most asshole DRM in the industry, I'd rather not give them my money anyway.

I pirated From Dust days before release because it got pushed back on us PC players. Of course I bought it on Steam too, but the only reason I pirated it was because Ubisoft was a shit company. If they got their act together then there would be less piracy. Take their DRM for example. A game like Assassin's Creed is one that I'd play when my internet is down but I can't because your DRM sucks cock in hell.

I haven't been buying anything from Ubisoft, and I don't think anyone else should be doing so either, especially if they're going to give this kind of an attitude to their customers.
Because it's impossible to pirate console games.
Well fuck you too, Ubisoft.
Well, maybe Ubisoft games should just use Steamworks so they can stop bitching about piracy. I know that Steamworks isn't infallible, but it's BETTER.
From Dust was my last straw with Ubisoft. Not surprising to see they're still being classy as ever to us PC guys.
There always will be piracy, however I think if they would just stop beings dicks, removed their drm, and maybe actually tried on the pc versions of their games, then the piracy would significantly fall.
“We’ve heard loud and clear that PC gamers are bitching about there being no version for them…But are these people just making noise just because there’s no version or because it’s a game they actually want to play? Would they buy it if we made it?”
This guy has a warped view of pc gaming. Really the industry loses more on used game sells then it does piracy. He really thinks every pc gamer out there is just some pirate that pirates every game. But hey maybe if you stopped putting such bad drm on your games maybe people would stop getting the non drm version (the pirated version).
Not going to lie, I did pirate all of my games before, but that was due to a lack of money, but now that I have a job, I have actually went and bought all of the games, and have bought every good game that has came out this month also. If you make good games people will want to buy your games. I am also going to be spending a fuckton of money on the Steam Autumn and Christmas sale. Fucking Ubisoft.
fears that only Pirates will steal the game
No fucking shit Sherlock, who else would steal the game, honest customers?!

Doing some math, and assuming they make France's average wage. It would cost them €48,348(64,523 USD) to hire 12 workers for 3 months. If they sold that to 50,000 at USD 60 they would make 3,000,000(2,247,868.07 EUR) making a profit of $2,935,577.
