Loveland police said a patrol officer contacted Courtney Bowles, 31, and the boy at 10:40 p.m. on Friday because they were in a car parked at North Lake Park after closing time. Both were naked in the car and Bowles was on top of the boy, according to Bowles' arrest affidavit. Bowles, a Fort Collins resident, was arrested on suspicion of three felonies -- sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, sexual assault and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, police said. Bowles made a court appearance Monday and was ordered to stay away from anyone under the age of 18. Bowles coaches teachers on instructional strategies at Mountain View High School in Loveland, said Wes Fothergill, spokesman for the Thompson School District. She was hired in December 2009. She also was a staff sponsor of Mi Raza, a Latino student group at the high school. "We always find these situations unfortunate, and we're saddened by the fact that this may have happened," Fothergill told 7NEWS. "We do background checks on all staff members and found nothing unusual about her." Bowles had no prior criminal history in Colorado, according to state arrest records. Fothergill said Bowles will remain on paid leave during the police investigation. Police said the initial investigation indicated this was an isolated incident with no evidence of other victims. Bowles has been married for eight years, according to her Facebook page. She previously taught social studies at Westminster High School and at Northglenn Middle School, according to her LinkedIn profile. On her LinkedIn profile, Bowles said she is "eager to bridge my passion for high quality education and my appreciation of the American political process." Bowles also writes that she is "dedicated to enthusiastic and dynamic teaching as a means of creating and nurturing a lifelong love of knowledge in all people." Bowles served a five-month internship on Gov. Bill Ritter's Office of Policy Initiatives in 2008, according to her LinkedIn profile. Bowles has a masters of public policy from the University of Denver and a bachelor's degree from Colorado State University. Bowles is also a vice president at Teaching Tree, an early childhood learning center with locations in Fort Collins and Loveland, according to the firm's website.[/release] It's a damn shame she wasted her great resume doing something so stupid... she can kiss her career goodbye. EG: If a 13 year old boy does 31 year old female teacher, he has "thought it through" or "it's all in good fun" but if it's the 13 year old girl "she doesn't know what she wants" or "you are too young to make that decision" In some sense, it is sort of a true, I suppose it depends on the particular individual, but right off the bat the variables are very different. While a boy may just be looking to dick around with his teacher, with a girl it could be a whole other story and she'd generally be a lot more vulnerable in a relationship.
