The family of an eight-year-old girl who was given weeks to live are celebrating after the "miracle" news that she has overcome an inoperable brain tumour.
Claudia Burkill, was diagnosed with Metastatic PineoBlastoma - an incredibly rare and aggressive form of cancer with no known cure - in 2011.
On various occasions, Claudia's family were told she only had days to live. Yet that prognosis was completely reversed this week after she was put through an experimental treatment known as The Milan Protocol.
Today it is revealed through their Facebook page that this little girl has another fight on her hands.

I knew she was lying.

Honestly though that's terrible.
I think what is more likely was a misdiagnosis.
Its a metastasis though, which was kind of expected
But its only above her lung, where its way easier to remove than from the brain

They misdiagnosed that her brain tumor was gone and turned into a lung tumor yeah
first the AIDS cured kid and now this... ugh

There are other things besides cancer that cause tumors; parasites are just one. It could have been a parasite that moved location.

please tell me more
I don't want to point fingers but I have a feeling that this coupled with the unfortunate news about the kids who was deemed cured of AIDS is mostly because of hospitals/medical teams jumping on board with news outlets trying to come up with a miracle story that will get them more viewers. It just feels like it is the family who is caught in the middle of this media sensation and start to believe in the miracle themselves. I am not saying it is impossible to be cured of what is deemed terminal cancer or AIDS but breaking the story out as a miracle as soon as it happens and then going around interviewing a bunch of doctors who are just saying "We have never seen this happen before, it is nothing short of a miracle" is simply irresponsible and hurtful.
Poor kid jeez

I bet if this kid had anything other than cancer, they sure as fuck would've found it.
Let's make a few things clear;
There is, no matter the diagnostic methodologies used, always a small chance for error to creep in, not to mention that symptoms often vary from person to person in certain diseases. Also, any symptoms observed might not even pinpoint the exact source of the problem, much less the exact problem, unless they're identified for exactly what they are. Human error is the elephant in the room no matter what the case. You cannot eliminate it 100% even with a team of dedicated physicians, but you can minimize it to an acceptable level.
Also, a word on pineoblastoma itself and cancers in general; sub 1-mm lesions are virtually impossible to detect in body tissue especially if they're metabolically less active than they should be. So a fledgling metastasis or tumor mass might grow slowly, and start producing symptoms all over again, thus necessitating its identification for further management. And especially in this era of targeted therapy, such small lesions will escape the brunt to fight another day, so to speak.
Now as far as this case is concerned, if it hasn't spread anywhere else, a needle biopsy followed by a lobectomy will be the possible treatment of choice since it's only 2 cm large. Or else the excision biopsy will suffice if the tumor mass is discrete enough and hasn't started spreading invasively.

Do you not understand how cancer works? Malignant cancer spreads to other locations in the body. It can reappear after a remission period.

Some hospital in Mississippi had a baby that was cured of AIDS after birth.
They just recently found out it returned after 3 to 2 years later
