Anyone who's watched the recent Sherlock Holmes movie knows what I'm talking about. In the merry month of June, From me home I started, Left the girls of Tuam, Nearly broken hearted, Saluted father dear, Kissed me darlin' mother, Drank a pint of beer, My grief and tears to smother, Then off to reap the corn, And leave where I was born, I cut a stout blackthorn, To banish ghost and goblin, In a brand new pair of brogues, I rattled o'er the bogs, And frightened all the dogs,On the rocky road to Dublin. Chorus: One, two, three, four five, Hunt the hare and turn her Down the rocky road And all the ways to Dublin, Whack-fol-lol-de-ra. In Mullingar that night, I rested limbs so weary, Started by daylight, Next mornin' light and airy, Took a drop of the pure, To keep my heart from sinkin', That's an Irishman's cure, Whene'er he's on for drinking. To see the lasses smile, Laughing all the while, At my curious style, 'Twould set your heart a-bubblin'. They ax'd if I was hired, The wages I required, Till I was almost tired, Of the rocky road to Dublin. In Dublin next arrived, I thought it such a pity, To be so soon deprived, A view of that fine city. Then I took a stroll, All among the quality, My bundle it was stole, In a neat locality; Something crossed my mind, Then I looked behind; No bundle could I find, Upon my stick a wobblin'. Enquirin' for the rogue, They said my Connacht brogue, Wasn't much in vogue, On the rocky road to Dublin. From there I got away, My spirits never failin' Landed on the quay As the ship was sailin'; Captain at me roared, Said that no room had he, When I jumped aboard, A cabin found for Paddy, Down among the pigs I played some funny rigs, Danced some hearty jigs, The water round me bubblin', When off Holyhead, I wished myself was dead, Or better far instead, On the rocky road to Dublin. The boys of Liverpool, When we safely landed, Called myself a fool; I could no longer stand it; Blood began to boil, Temper I was losin', Poor ould Erin's isle They began abusin', "Hurrah my soul," sez I, My shillelagh I let fly; Some Galway boys were by, Saw I was a hobblin', Then with a loud hurray, They joined in the affray. We quickly cleared the way, For the rocky road to Dublin. For the late 1800s, that's pretty damn awesome. The Irish always had great music. [editline]4:35 PM[/editline] Classical pieces of music aren't songs, people. They're compositions.
Nice song, but wrong forum What you're looking for is the music forum.
There's a music forum? Shit. Mods, would you kindly move this?
It's okay, but I wouldn't pay to go see it performed.
Also the best song from the 19th century is Rugrats by mya and blackstreet. :ms:
I hope you're not serious. Pretty much the whole of the romantic movement in music is in the 19th century.
Also the best song from the 19th century is Rugrats by mya and blackstreet. :ms:
19th century =/= 1900s
omg i work at a movie theatre and every time i come in to clean the theatre, i listen to this song every fucking time. ITS SO FUCKING ANNOYING. i almost killed myself
It was fine. 19th century didn't have a lot of good "songs", but a lot of great pieces of music. [editline]10:23PM[/editline]
I hope you're not serious. quite partial to the hall of the mountain king, myself
Maybe not the best, but music like this is so awesome to listen to.

why are 99% of violinists sexy women?
I love this kind of music.
Updated version:
That's horrible [editline]08:17PM[/editline] Also archangel you make way too many threads
It's very Irish.
Possibly, but heheh no.
I agree, on iTunes they have the song and it is the only popular song.
That's fucking awesome [editline]01:46PM[/editline] The Irish are awesome
Wait when was this in Sherlock Holmes? I fell asleep in it,not that its a bad movie. I was just really tired
My avatar disagrees.
Updated version:
I'll expand on why I say this is terrible. They have no concept of mastering a song and even worse they don't understand the idea of rhythm.
why are 99% of violinists sexy women?
I've noticed this trend too. Perhaps mastering the violin will instantly turn one into a sexy woman. I'll get started next week.
Song was pretty catchy when I watched the movie.
Well it's Irish, it doesn't matter what it is, if it's Irish, it's automatically awesome.
Flogging Molly is also a great Irish band.
19th century =/= 1900s
No.. we are in the 21th century now.. 2010. Lay two and two together..
Alot of the older songs/folksongs/compositions are just plain awesome, dad-gum whipper-snappers these days don't know what they're missing by automatically dismissing them as "boring".
