Local resident Sharon Arnold said a section of Lulu Island Designs featuring a hand-written sign denoting XXL- and XL-sized clothing as the “Whale” section was not appropriate and should be removed.
“I felt that it doesn’t belong here, because it’s sending the wrong message. It’s ostracizing large women,” said Arnold, adding there is also a “shrimp” sign for smaller-sized clothing in the store.
On Friday, a man who identified himself as the owner but refused to give his name told The Vancouver Sun that the signs had been taken down, despite being there for over 20 years with only the one recent complaint.
All it takes is one asshole to ruin it for everyone.
Let's sea how many puns we can make.
Next time the owner sees that woman he should point and say "Thar, she blows."
I will never understand why fat people are so sensitive.

people usually don't like being made fun off. shocking...
people usually don't like being made fun off. shocking...
But I get made fun of all the time!
Why just the other day someone said to me "hey your weight is more or less appropriate for your height" and I was traumatized for weeks
I will never understand why fat people are so sensitive.
Because they recognize the problem and don't want to do anything about it.
So they make everyone else do things around them.
Because they recognize the problem and don't want to do anything about it.
Instead of changing themselves, they just keep blubbering how society should change for them.

s-s-stop fat shaming me!
but on a more serious note, I think it's pretty funny when women who are EXTREMELY overweight are like "mm yea, real women have CURVES"
I will never understand why fat people are so sensitive.
You can't really understand. A privilege only beaten by male privilege is Thin privilege

"Bitch those ain't curves, those are slopes."

Example?
The story in the OP is a case of a fat woman not wanting the world to change for them, the exact opposite of what you're suggesting
Making fun of someone involves changing how you act towards other people you know
Instead of changing themselves, they just keep blubbering how society should change for them.
did you do that on purpose

Seems like if you don't like fat people, by making fun of them you're fighting against yourself

I'm sure a lot of small people don't like being called 'shrimp'. As opposed to taking who they are with some pride, ignoring the people who bring this negativity or simply not giving a damn they make a big deal out of it. Pretty much everyone gets made fun of for their differences and fat people aren't exempt from this.
did you do that on purpose
I mean, good on her for taking steps on losing weight but take your jokes like a big girl.
I will never understand why fat people are so sensitive.
Because it's not "their" fault that they're fat.
I find fat people gross and deeply unnerving.
Because it's not "their" fault that they're fat.
That kind of depends on the person...
Ostracizing large women? Yeah, I think that's the point. Take it in good spirit as a joke instead of being an asshole about it.

oh my god you meant this too

It would be reasonable to get upset about a clothing store making fun of small people too.
I'm not sure what you're trying to argue here. This isn't banter between two people, it's the actions of a business.

I have no problem with fat people, I have a problem with overweight people who make their problems mine. I would never make fun of someone because of their weight unless they somehow tried to change me to conform to them.
Because it's not "their" fault that they're fat.
You're right, it's my fault as an opressive white male
I find fat people gross and deeply unnerving.
I prefer repulsive and annoying.

I suppose my point is that literally every other fat (and small) person managed to survive the atrocities of that store without making a big enough fuss for it to make local news. If you don't like a business for doing that then you shouldn't shop there in the exact same way if you don't like a person doing that you shouldn't associate yourself with that guy.
Also you'll find some extreme cases of shifting the weight of whose responsible on tumblr.

This is exactly the kind of thing local news is for though
The fact that we're seeing it now is a product of the internet, it's not as though this person immediately phoned up Reuters
Instead of changing themselves, they just keep blubbering how society should change for them.
Ha.
ugh why cant fat people just die and be quiet and hidden with the shame they deserve

Doesn't change that everyone gets a jab for being different. I sure as hell didn't get mad at this ad campaign: http://www.3news.co.nz/Gingers-see-red-over-ginger-beer-ad/tabid/367/articleID/263377/Default.aspx
Spoilers: Other people did and they can suck it up.
