Less than four months since 20 children and six educators were gunned down at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the television show “Glee” depicted a school shooting in Thursday night’s episode. The episode, titled “Shooting Star,” began with a disclaimer reading, “This episode of ‘Glee’ addresses the topic of school violence. Viewer discretion is advised.” Halfway through the episode, Will Schuester, the glee club coach played by Matthew Morrison, gathered his students in the choir room to begin their practice. “Let’s get started,” he said, clapping his hands together as a gunshot was heard in the background. A second shot rang out and Schuester and a coach ran to shut the door to the choir room. They quickly moved students to secure spots in the classroom, hiding them behind speakers or in far corners. “Start texting, tweeting, let everyone know what’s going on but don’t tell them we’re here. Alright? Shooters have smart moves too,” Schuester said to the teenagers. “I love you guys,” he told them. For ten harrowing minutes, the students and two teachers were trapped in the classroom, sending texts to their loved ones and filming videos of each other in case they didn’t survive. One student tried to leave the room when he realized his girlfriend was missing, but the teachers restrained him before he can leave.
People still watch that crap?
I hope everyone in Glee dies.
Attention Whoring.
As much as I hate Glee, I can see what they were trying to do. Putting a harrowingly dramatic scene in a show that's not exactly known for being serious is a great way to make a cultural point and make the correct demographic talk. Then again, it is Glee...
Can the story depict the shooter killing the cast? I'd enjoy that very much.
The scene isn't even that good it's not even tense it's boring.
School shootings are just lazy ways of creating drama. Quite a few shows have done them these past few years.
I don't think, given Glee's premise and history of stirring up controversy for attention, that this is anywhere near a coincidence.
wow how fucking mawkish
Talk about making a big song and dance about it.
"Start tweeting?" Did he seriously said that to his students? Why not call, you know, 911?
That scene was just boring. Talk about poor direction. They devoted more time to attention whoring than actually shooting a good episode.
"EVERYONE BE THE FUCK QUIET!... HEY GUYS WE ARE DOING OKAY... KEEP BEING QUIET, BECAUSE MY TALKING ISN'T MAKING NOISE..." *Cell phone buzz* "SHHHHH!!! YOUR CELL PHONE IS THE LOUDEST BUZZ I HAVE EVER HEARD BE FUCKING QUIET." I just watched that entire scene. This was poorly done. Look back in the 80s and 90s sitcoms where they had awareness episodes, they were always extremely good as a story and in sending a message.
Degrassi High(80s version) will always be king.
they tried to create tension exclusively by using high shutter speeds, crash zooms and fucking handheld camera. it was so lazy, didn't even tackle the issue that well and just seemed like a way to squeeze a higher rating out of the viewers and get a few more thou out their advertisers. [editline]13th April 2013[/editline] everyone watch elephant that was fucking amazing minus the unnecessary gay scenes.
Eh. It was boring and poorly shot, but at least it was tastefully done.
I don't think, given Glee's premise and history of stirring up controversy for attention, that this is anywhere near a coincidence.
of course its not a coincidence like I dont like glee, but everyone getting mad at it just because its covering a recent event seem to be hating it just because its glee. sure, its a shitty show with melodrama everywhere, but theres nothing fundamentally wrong with covering a school shooting in the show.
I mean, they could have done a lot worse. You didn't see anyone get shot, it didn't focus on, or even show or in any way glorify the shooter, there's no one being a hero to anyone and saving the day in some lame-ass TV-show manner, there's no names of anyone dead or wounded; or even so far shown anyone getting killed or injured at all (As far as I know, might be revealed later in episode), no main-character getting killed off trivializing every other potential death... All in all, for what it is, it's... Not bad. I'm not offended, nor would I be if I was an oversensitive cunt.
"Shooting star" It's funny because shooters are often made into literal stars, which is one of the bigger reasons why shootings even happens. Good fucking job
In the teacher’s lounge, Will, Shannon and Sue talk about the shooting. When Will mentions that every student is being questioned, Sue reveals that it was her gun and that it accidentally went off when she did her daily safety check.
Nevermind, this was way stupid and borderline offensive for the sake of being LOL TOPICAL and controversial. How'd it even go off two or three times during a safety check?
Watched the whole scene and holy shit that was absolutely disgusting. How dare they try to trivialize such a serious event as a school shooting. The whole shot reeks of unnecessary dramatization and altogether clutches for sentimentality and reality but it fails, hard. Having been in a similar "lockdown" situation myself (to be fair, it ended up being a false alarm, but the actual proceedings were much the same), I can safely say this is nothing like what kids act like during these sort of scenarios; no, this is only how the guys behind Glee think stereotype high-schoolers would behave, and it's all cliche attempts to try to be meaningful and more than it is. All of it. (The shot where the kid takes a video on his cellphone of the others is the best in this regard.) Maybe it's not fair to be, but I'm offended. Shame on them for trying to monetize tragedy like this, for there is no longer any doubt in my mind that this is a grab for attention. It's not fair to those who actually have to deal with these situations, to misrepresent them by showing some watered-down, commercialized, made-for-television trash.
they tried to create tension exclusively by using high shutter speeds, crash zooms and fucking handheld camera. it was so lazy, didn't even tackle the issue that well and just seemed like a way to squeeze a higher rating out of the viewers and get a few more thou out their advertisers. The issue arises when (as you admittedly did mention) it's the sole method of doing so.
And disregard that again, turns out it was a kid who brought it to school and it accidentally went off, and Sue, whoever the fuck that is, was a liar trying to cover it up.
Nevermind, this was way stupid and borderline offensive for the sake of being LOL TOPICAL and controversial. How'd it even go off two or three times during a safety check?
Sue carries a Nambu Type 94, obviously
"Start tweeting?" Did he seriously said that to his students? Why not call, you know, 911?
This is where I stopped watching. Sadly I can actually imagine people updating their facebook statuses and tweeting instead of calling the police.
This is where I stopped watching. Sadly I can actually imagine people updating their facebook statuses and tweeting instead of calling the police.
It was several minutes after first shots. People would have called the police already ten times.
I think the way they did it on American Horror Story was cool. Same people.
Nevermind, this was way stupid and borderline offensive for the sake of being LOL TOPICAL and controversial. It discharged, that was random... okay, lets tighten this trigger up again." *BANG* ... *BANG* "Oh dear, this gun is just never going to work!"
So do they have a musical number where they sing Pumped Up Kicks?
