The Battlefield series was launched in 2002 and has sold 50 million copies
Worth it.
imagine how much bigger the sale record would have been if it was on steam!
Just as an FYI, Black Ops had 7 million sold within 24 hours. According to the sale figure for the first week, that put the game at 10,835,140 units sold across the globe.
If MW3 is expected to sell even more than Black Ops, that puts BF3 as a pretty hefty competitor, but not meeting EA's expectations for going against MW3.

Black Ops sold around 5.5 million times in the first 24 hours.
Oh, just seen that you have edited your post.
Black Ops sold 5.5 million times in the first 24 hours.
No, that's only in the US & UK markets
Also yeah, I accidentally calculated it wrong. Originally had 14 million which is double the actual amount :v:

mw3 is not going to sell better than black ops because 50% of the people who were interested in it are completely disenchanted by the attempt to make it a p2p MMO

That's double the views, which means double the hype. And I think we all know what hype translates into.

If EA stuck with Steam, I'm almost positive BF3 would've been a CoD Killer sales-wise. But if they don't put BF3 on Steam before Christmas, they're gonna lose the sales fight.
True story :trolldad:
i wonder if this number would be alot higher, if they didnt create this web server browser and origin vs steam shit.
If BF3 were on steam, I'd have bought it already. I don't even have a computer that will run it, whats that tell you?

Their expactations were set at about 20% the market impact that MW3 is going to make. So I'd say they've got a fairly big chance of doing just that.

That you're a paranoid lazy person
Well Battlelog and Origin definitely didn't help the sales. I mean yeah, most fans of the series don't give a shit about either one. But I actually do know some people who are like "hurr durr origin sux i'm not getting bf3" Sure that's their problem, but if Dice/EA wanted to beat MW3 in sales, they could've avoided people getting these sort of reactions.
There's also the fact that both Origin and Battlelog take up resources, and BF3 is a visually expensive game as it is. While CoD remains to be a lot more simple, thus more people will be able to run it on their computers. I rather get MW3 and be able to play it, then to get BF3 and not be able to run it.
(I preordered both anyway)
This November, we’re launching Battlefield 3. It’s going up against the next Call of Duty, which is presently the #1 game in the game industry, a game that last year did $400 million dollars in revenue on day one. [Battlefield 3] is designed to take that game down.
There will be a couple hundred million dollars of marketing against these two products going head to head. We think we have the better product.
I know what you're saying, but the fact that the figures are lining up to suggest that MW3 is going to start with the stronger sales overall says that maybe BF3 isn't going to be the titan EA was hoping it would be.
Keep in mind that most of the players who bought BF3 are going to buy MW3 anyway - I hate to cite analysts, but I think they claimed 50% - which smooths any sort of dent BF3 could land. Likewise, I can't see how EA can successfully fight Activision if they can't continue to hold the momentum that BF3 promised. I mean, BF3 was implied to be the Battlefield, the game PC gamers have been waiting for and a true sequel part of the Battlefield series. Now how do you follow up to that? BF4? BC3?

I can tell you that millions of those views on MW3 are from BF3 fanboys and other people who just came there to say that CoD sucks
Lady Gaga's videos have hundreds of millions of views and she isn't selling hundreds of millions of albums.
Horrible example, Lady Gaga's one of the most powerful celebrities in the world with a net worth over 70 million dollars. The only celebrity more powerful than her is Oprah. She doesn't need to be selling millions of albums.
Youtube view means jack shit.
Lady Gaga's videos have hundreds of millions of views and she isn't selling hundreds of millions of albums.
There are literally hundreds of other examples of this, just look at any semi-popular musician.
It's not the numbers, it's the popularity.
But since you brought up Lady GaGa and the music industry, let's work off of that:

Born This Way, from the official GaGa VEVO channel - 81,270,171 views

S&M, from the official Rihanna VEVO channel - 32,413,471 views
S&M sold 2.7 million in the US. Born This Way sold 3.3 million. Do they translate exactly? No. But they give us a very good rough estimate as to what people are craving more.
Steam has nothing to do with this, putting BF3 on steam isn't going to make the game sell thirty million copies, most of these game's sales are on consoles.
I'm not sure about that until we see some serious statistics that break down which system sees what sale %. Obviously consoles are going to take the cake, but PC could have a big chunk of that. And Steam is crazy good at publicity for incoming products, from free weekends, to the "Steam update" pop-ups. According to Valve, 2 years ago there were about 20 million active accounts, 12 million with community profiles, and 2.7 million tops at any given time. In Summer 2010 Steam broke 25 million active users. The peak is around 4.3 million now. That's a shitload of potential buyers.

I kind of find that hard to believe since I haven't heard anything about her in a while. Her "eccentric" gimmick will ware off soon enough and she will fade into complete obscurity.
As a GaGa fan myself, she doesn't 24/7 strive for constant attention.
She uses her celebrity status to impact the sales of her singles and albums by heating up PR when she needs to. She always dresses with a little eccentricity, but the real show-stoppers come about when album and single dates draw near. Most of her twitter & facebook posts are actually about her touring, hanging out with celebrities/folks in the industry, or just the occasional personal post. It's interesting though, because her facebook/twitter statuses tend to have a personal touch to them, yet she also has claimed in interviews that she really doesn't want to 100% reveal her personal life to her fans.
Just 2 weeks ago she was at Bill Clinton's birthday, that was kinda big across the news. She's touring right now and performing at a slew of events (Formula 1 in India just yesterday iirc) so there's not really much to report unless you're crazy for that.
Woop woop I don't care if MW3 has better sales; The game is still fun

The crazy stuff she did was the only thing that really caught the attention of people who weren't her fans though.
Nothing else really sets her apart and nobody lasts long in the pop music industry anyways.
DICE and EA know BF3 chances of outselling MW3 are slim to none that's why they are in it for the long hall. In the larger scheme BF3 is meant to hack away at CoD's top spot making it easier for the next BF game to make even more sales and further reduce at CoD's sales till BF takes the number 1 spot.
Also we still don't know what the long term impact of both games will be. For all we know by the time the holidays roll around BF3 will be all patched up and MW3 turns out to be a disappointment. Or BF3 could still be very buggy and MW3 turns out to be the best CoD yet (it could happen) but again we won't know for sure till the holiday sales numbers come in.

I disagree; a large number of listeners were actually brought in because of her focus on self-love and self-acceptance. A kinda overarching theme of her work so far is the cycle of self-destruction, self-regret, and self-acceptance, and I think that hits strongly with a lot more folks than any of her crazy dresses. At least, that's why songs like Born This Way are so popular. And it explains why the biggest % of her fans are actually much older, in their late 20s and 30s, and not teens who are susceptible to gimmicks.
COD's mindless running around in circles gunning people down gets boring after a while, especially since it's been the same thing 4 times in a row now, killing a bunch of dudes with a tank, helicopter, or RPG is indefinitely more satisfying than getting your millionth kill with an M16.
The difference is people like me who buy CoD are just fine with that as long as IW/Treyarch give a slight tweak to the series every game.
I'm kinda disappointed MW3 looks a lot like MW2, down to the UI. I liked the jump from CoD 4 - MW2, and MW2 - Black Ops. That's really the kind of changes CoD fans want to see; unlock system changes, new grenades/secondaries/attatchments, weapon changes and tweaks, new maps, and maybe mess around with perks and etc. Most other CoD fans are casual gamers so they take a "If it ain't broken, don't fix it," attitude.

That said I hear great things about BF3 and really wanna try it, I was kinda disappointed by the Alpha. Didn't give the Beta a chance on account of being too busy and a little disappointed.

Ninja'ed by miles...
I would have bought it if it was on steam instead of that origin bullshit.
Its a really nice game, but I hope MW3 sells alot (and I mean ALOT) more then BF3 so they could stick it down their pants for giving birth to origin.
