Half-Life 3 - An Open World Shooter With Quests Coming After 2013?

[QUOTE]A French gaming site reports that Half-Life 3 will be launched sometime after 2013, according to their source close to Valve.
This anonymous source claims that Half-Life 3 was originally supposed to be a pure shooter but over time evolved when developers introduced more gameplay elements. Like every Half-Life, this one will also be action oriented but it will include many RPG elements such as open world, quests and NPCs.
Also, the source states that this is the full Half-Life 3 game, and not just Half-Life 2: Episode 3.
As there have lately been tons of rumors about HL3, take this one with a grain of salt. What do you think? Is this the real deal or just another story for desperate Half-Life fans?

While I'm not saying I necessarily believe this, there is no doubt that the next HL will not be another episode with the same old reused HL2 content; Valve only makes big hit titles now, long gone are the days of making a simple game like DoD or some other game that won't be updated indefinitely or selling millions and create memes and fan bases and wiki's.
Calling it now, this is bullshit.
I won't believe anything that doesn't come from Valve.
how would that even work in a half-life game
Interesting if true.. I would like to see what Valve can do with this. Would partially make sense.

Seriously? How is this news? I could just claim that someone close to valve said there will be no HL3 and people would beleive it?
Well, it's not impossible (what little they've said thus far implies they're doing something interesting with it at least), but I'll believe it when I see something more solid.
Why do obscure websites bother reporting on stuff like this? There is no reason to believe that any news about HL3 that doesn't come from Valve is true in any aspect.
Is it possible that this is true? Sure, but Valve has not made any statement about HL3. Thus, we have no information on HL3. This is pure speculation.
What? How, just what?
Open world half life with rpg elements? Who came up with rumour and who was stupid enough to make news out of it?

that's more of an (in console terms) Xbox Live Arcade title, you still see enormous AAA ultra rich companies make Xbox Live Arcade titles
Basically Valve needed a CS on consoles
I can see Valve doing something like that... Maybe. But it's just a rumor. So far none of these lead to anything.
Gonna take it with this

but no matter what the next HL will not be like the others, standards have changed, you can't just release another "episode", that doesn't cut it anymore, Valve is like the gaming equivalent of Apple: Everything they make is "the next big thing" and the entire internet is flipped upside down when a new Valve title is near release.
It's complete bullshit.

that game has the most players of any Steam game, that is a AAA title, what's your point?
[QUOTE=The Baconator;37739479]that game has the most players of any Steam game, that is a AAA title, what's your point?[/QUOTE]
It's a f2p game that's not going to be released for consoles and won't cost $60 at launch. Its development team is much smaller than the dev team for portal 2 or other titles that cost $60.
I want to believe, but that just wouldn't work in a HL game. I feel like it would dick up the storytelling aspects.
I'm gonna have to take that with this:

I believe the idea was that it is nothing new for the most part.

I never said it was coming to consoles, and I never said it would not be F2P
An Dota is like what, one of the biggest games ever? This is far more important and will get far more players than every single Portal game that is released and ever will be released.
[editline]20th September 2012[/editline]
Valve also confirmed they won't ever make a single player only title (hence Portal 2 have co-op) so the next HL will have to be very different from the previous ones, like the gap between Portal and Portal 2
If this does somehow turn out to be true, and I'm saying that with a very heavy sense of doubt, how would an "open world" based game even work in the source engine?
I hear way too much about how terrible the current engine's tiny map size is
but if anything is coming with HL3's new engine, make sense that that would be one of the improvements

popularity of game=/=status as an AAA title
The original DOTA was a free mod. So was Counter Strike, as well as Day of Defeat.
By definition triple A games are games with a hugeass budget and massive production values compared to the average "budget" title like the episodes of Half Life 2 or Portal 1

they never swore that they were not going to make another single player game. It was a "this is probably how it will turn out, but no promises" type of thing
Confirmed: HL3 takes place in Equestria, Gordon Freeman teams up with his brother John Freeman as they infiltrate the futuristic drug cartels of Mexico using spells and magic.

source engine 2 is in development
An open world half life could be pretty coolm just without RPG elements since I'm sick of RPG elements in shooters.

Source 2 is very strongly believed to be in development

well you can't deny that things have changed in Valve forever, the reason why they haven't released a new HL is because they want to make it like their newer games: big hits that the masses on all platforms will buy
[editline]20th September 2012[/editline]
Valve is too popular for them to release another plain ol' HL2 mod aka "episode"
