Sunny weather pictures (nature, people and animals)
12 replies, posted
Well i thought i should post some photo's that i took on these forums for a change (and not gearpics and people getting angry at me because i don't post my pictures :sigh:).
But yeah, i do make photo's WITH my gear although i mostly don't post them, maybe some feeling that they aren't good enough to be posted. I did upload them to flickr though.
There is some experimental stuff here that i am testing, for i was testing out with some film presets in lightroom.
Okay here are the pictures(i won't be posting everything because i think that's too much):

Okay, still a big amount of photo's. Please give feedback and tell me which pictures you like :)
I really loved 1, 2 and 4 the rest weren't as great to me. But yeah, those 3 are my favourites. I love the dog. :h:
Loving this one!

Im a sucker for oversaturated goodness
love the last one and the windmill one although you could've moved back a little bit to get the propellers in the frame, seems a bit weird with them cut off

it's a first person shooter
I think that most of these shots are pretty bland and boring to be honest. They are very snapshot-esque and don't feel like they've had much thought put into them. The photos of your friend(?) with his DSLR is the kind of thing that wouldn't even make it off of my memory card, and the duck shots are a similar story. You are way too tight in your images, it's a habit that amateurs pick up, just because you have a big zoom lens doesn't mean you have to use it.
Other than that I like the concept of the third image, although I think if you walked a few meters to your left you would have a much better angle.
I agree that some of the shots are not my best, but some of them are all but snapshots.
But I must say that i haven't used my 40D a lot since i got it, so i still need to get used to it.
Though I was just glad i could take some pictures again after a long time not doing so.
This time of the year I really have it busy at school, and i just make pictures for relaxation sometimes.
I think this thursday was this kind of day.
As for the third picture, i also have a shot of the pier right in front of me with that guy walking on it, maybe that's a better picture? If you want to see it, i will post it here.
funny,
You have so much gear but you are posting shots that you could have pulled off fine with a entry-level body and a kit lens. I think you should learn to get better rather than wanking over gear, it's a hole many people fall for when they associate how good of photographers they are with the price of gear.
I think if you want to see better pictures of me go check out my post on the film thread, those are way better then these.
but some of them are all but snapshots.
which photos and why? do you think that because you didn't intend for them to be a snapshot means that they aren't a snapshot?
I think if you want to see better pictures of me go check out my post on the film thread, those are way better then these.
They are better but not immensely better, there is still a lot to improve on.
You still do obsess with gear too much.

Just tell me if i'm wrong, but i feel like you are attacking me.
I don't mean to say that they aren't snapshots, but snapshots just feels like they have no quality at all. :(
Some pictures do have quality, and just judging them as snapshots sounds a bit harsh to me.

You are right that i like collecting gear a lot. (you could say i collect it too, but sometimes i use it)
Just mind you i am just taking pictures because i like taking pictures, it's not my job, and it will never be as well.
I am not trying to win anything, or making money with my photo's.
It's me that decides whether i like a picture or not.
Ofcourse people can say they don't like them, but i like CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, not just: "You suck at making pictures, you are a gearslut" kind of reactions.
And no, i am not saying that you are saying that, nobody does say that exactly, but some reactions do feel like making that suggestion.
Just say if i am wrong
I'm going to say you're wrong.
The first thing you must learn about posting on the internet is this, Frag4Life: People tend to be brutally honest. When you ask someone you know in person about a piece of your work, they may be nicer because they like you, because they know your background and experience, or any other of a number of reasons. Someone on the internet is going to tear apart your work bit by bit because they are totally anonymous, and it takes time to learn to adjust to that. My first experience was with the mapping forum here on Facepunch - I was so proud of my first "serious" map that I posted it and got very defensive when people started criticizing it. Looking back, that map was a POS, but I learned to handle the bold critics of the internet. And truthfully, it's good to have that blatantly honest criticism because it will help you to improve.
Really, the best thing you can do is accept it. Instead of coming up for an excuse or rebuttal to every piece of critique, think about why the person said that, or ask them to elaborate, and then thank them for the advice. This is especially important in photography - if you have to explain your photo, it's entirely ineffective.
For example, in this post and the one above it, the best thing to do - instead of arguing that they are "anything but snapshots" - would be to ask why H4Z3Y thought they were just snapshots and what you could have done to improve them. This gives your thread and your posts more purpose: you're saying "help me improve" instead of "give me compliments."
Now, if the advice is plainly bad or if you think following it in the future will hurt your photos, then the best idea would probably be to simply ignore that post. If it's an "attack" on your personality, like B-hazard's comment about obsessing over gear too much, the best idea would be to stop and consider it - do you feel like you obsess too much? If not, then either ignore it or ask why he thinks obsessing less would prove beneficial to you. If so, then thank him for the advice and take it to heart.
I hope that all made sense.
I'd say this photography section is pretty damn nice when it comes to being honest as well.
Nobody here was being much of a dick to you, but you still became pretty defensive.
