• Stephen Fry deletes Twitter after BAFTA 'bag lady' joke.
Fry, who hosted the ceremony, attracted the ire of social media users after calling his longtime friend Jenny Beavan a "bag lady" after she collected an award for her work on Mad Max: Fury Road.
"Only one of the great cinematic costume designers would come to an awards ceremony dressed as a bag lady," Fry said.
He was soon subjected to an onslaught of angry messages — including some from high-profile fashion commentators — with viewers taking to social media to berate the actor for his apparent slight. Fry appeared to have deleted his account several hours later. Sorry, forgot the source: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-02-15/stephen-fry-deletes-twitter-after-bafta-bag-lady-backlash/7170430
He made this tweet not long after. Given his history of mental health issues I hope he doesn't do anything irrational. :(
I had no idea he had bipolar. Hopefully nothing too bad comes of this...
fair joke to make, she did look like a bag lady, who gives a fuck?
What a big baby. This is the internet, what did he expect?
It pisses me off when people get "offended" for other people. The people attacking Stephen didn't ask Jenny if she was offended in the first place.
What a big baby. This is the internet, what did he expect?
I'm sorry, I don't think being harassed by people because of a harmless jab between friends and being upset about it is "being a big baby". Nice victim blaming though.
What a big baby. This is the internet, what did he expect?
cool, so how many times have you been a high-profile celebrity berated by hundreds/thousands of people
im sick of this "I find that offensive" stance people have over everything these days. particularly when it involves being offended on behalf of someone else. be offended then. fuck off a guy can't even make a friendly joke about a good friend without being berated by twitter's pc brigade
What a big baby. This is the internet, what did he expect?
"It's the internet" is probably one of the worst arguments ever
I'm with Fry. This planet can SUCK it.
I'm with Fry. This planet can SUCK it.
Fuck this place let's go to space.
I had no idea he had bipolar. Hopefully nothing too bad comes of this...
He attempted suicide only the other year.
Sometimes I want to emigrate from this planet.

And given she's apparently a good friend of his, it really seems like this is a bad case of being offended on other people's account without context.
Lets get offended on somebody elses behalf without taking into account any facts or context! Fuck this gay earth.
Aliens refuse to view us as intelligent life because we constantly berate each other over harmless quips and jabs.
So just a word to the tragic figures who think calling Jenny Bevan [sic] a bag lady was an insult. She’s a dear friend and she got it. Derr

I'm sorry, I don't think being harassed by people because of a harmless jab between friends and being upset about it is "being a big baby". Nice victim blaming though.
"victim blaming"? There's a difference between being a random victim and getting called out for what appeared to be an insult to those who responded. Fry's poor choice in what to post doesn't make him a blameless victim, his actions directly instigated the response.

Should I be offended if my friend makes a joke to another friend cause it offended me? Despite it being aimed at the other person and not me? No, unless it's really something messed up, No.
cmon fry you told us your stance on offended people "so fucking what!" also this is the least offensive thing I've seen... what is wrong with this country. [editline]15th February 2016[/editline]
What a big baby. This is the internet, what did he expect?
don't be a twat. how would you like if 100'000 people advertised your full name and insulted you for nothing.

No, unless it's really something messed up, No.
This seems to be more of a case of people getting upset that someone (to their eyes) insulted someone else they like or respect. If someone insulted some of the people I respect, I would most certainly respond insultingly in kind. I believe that's a fairly normal reaction, and I believe the reaction his words garnered on Twitter is to be expected.
He can always join FP and be a shit lord like us without anyone knowing who he really is.
He can always join FP and be a shit lord like us without anyone knowing who he really is.
maybe he already has... :tinfoil:
I can understand getting angry at his use of the term "bag lady" since it's a derogatory term that reinforces stereotypes of homeless people, but getting angry at him giving a jab to his longtime friend is plain silly. [editline]16th February 2016[/editline]
What a big baby. This is the internet, what did he expect?
Why are you consistently such an awful person?
maybe he already has... :tinfoil:
people have said his son is or was on this board. If he wants to be in incognito all he has to do is have an anime avatar with a dog undertale face slapped on once he's allowed to.

I wish he actually deleted twitter the website, what a shithole.
No banter allowed.
Gotta love how anti-harassment crusaders harass the most.
