Been tryin' to find some kits where i can do somethin' like this. i'm willing to spend a top of $30 USD for these, i just bought komplete so my wallet is kinna suffering. I've done this sort of thing before so i understand pretty much what goes where, so i'm not looking for loops, i'm lookin for kits.
Honestly I wouldn't bother spending money on a drum pack for IDM drums. Most artists just take regular drums and process them using various tools to make them sound all whacked out and glitchy (things like timestretching, retrigger, distortion, bit crushing, etc.) At least that's what I do. http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1276029 I use this for most of my drum programming. It has a lot of retro grade drum sequencer samples which is precisely what a lot people in the IDM scene seem to use. Another thing flashbill (along with a lot of other artists) does is just sample stuff they hear in their every day environment. I think I heard a few pill bottle caps in Undiscovered Colors. It's really fun if you ever get your hands on a decent mic. I love this kind of music-- it's practically all I listen to. Benn Jordan is an amazing composer and if you haven't already, go check out Aphex Twin and Clark.
i've done the things in environment, arpeggiate and pitch thing before and it sounds nice, its just getting the sounds. ill try this one but its mainly these clicks and pops you hear in his percussion. i've been using a bottle cap and 2 mono condensers for stereo against a desk to make those but it still doesn't sound completely right. (edit) ooh~ thanks for the follow, i'll try and czech ur stuff out when i'm in the studio next. it is on the to do list.
Yeah, don't waste money on any IDM sample packs. Just sample random hits, clicks and other perc-type noises from whatever you can get your hands on. I've actually gotten some pretty cool IDM-type noises before by sampling clicky/sharp consonant sounds from a VHS tape.

DLL files in particular make some pretty useful sounds. Amongst the violent glitches and pops are some synth sounding buzzes that are very simple to sample and tune into anything you want.
databending? yeauh i do that normally. import raw data into audacity or any other DAW that is capable of it. its really just the clicks i have trouble finding.
This doesn't mean much by any means at all, but personally I feel a lot more original when I use 100% custom material. Still, if you were willing to drop $30 bucks on samples you could find anywhere, then I highly recommend saving up to buy a firewire or usb interface and a decent mic. Seriously, when you get a good interface and mic, the sky is the limit.
