Not really. They just don't want people overwriting their characters and making it a 100% chance they'll never see their first character again.

After not playing since last week, and having my character's head in the bottom slot for days, loading up GTA online instantly deleted him, despite his stats and everything being there seconds before, and I can not be assed to go through the fucking tutorial again

I've sat through that opening scene/tutorial about 5 times now.

Granted I was a little impatient but still.

doubt it. it sounds like if you put a character in your old characters spot, the new character will replace the cloud save of your old character when the game regains connection. don't take my word on it though.

Was I really the only one who knew this the first day I got my character removed? I mean it seems common sense.. To not overwrite anything. Also Yes i did get my character back.

Fuck yeah. My first character was really awesome, but it got lost and I created a new character in its place and it was butt-ugly, but the PS3 crashed before I could save it. Now my original character is back! I didn't even (visibly) get online after I created my first character and assumed it wasn't saved on their servers.

Even with the issues it's having at least rockstar is being honest and upfront about it and working hard to fix it.
