Yeah he got it around the time the kickstart for his movie was pitched, he mentioned it on that kickstarter video I believe.

Not really. That argument has never made sense.
They're popular right now for gamemodes where you manage a team or actually play your own career after getting drafted and all that.
Stuff that is about as likely to happen irl as a zombie apocalypse or any other video game setting.

I do. Sports games are still fun. Sometimes I play the franchise modes and just simulate every game, using it to really focus on building the team to win a title. Besides, you can't really control a whole team in real, and you can't always get enough people to play whenever you want (baseball especially).
